Bullet proof vest for IPSC or IDPA

I drive to the match in a bullet proof car, and when I shoot, I shoot from behind cover.

Seriously guys, you are a LOT more likely being killed by a golf ball on the 3rd hole than by a ricochet at a range. In terms of ballistics and physics you should really be able to see that a bullet proof vest is totally unnecessary.

It is sort of like wearing a helmet to a golf course: may make you feel better, but you still look like a ####!

Your comment is rather juvenile I would have thought it fairly obvious. I have one so I wear it. No big deal to me, if you don't or can't afford one don't knock somebody who has and can.

Had a .45acp round whiz by my head at a range in the south when a father let his young son try out a 1911. First round when down range the 2nd came right after the first one, right nto the wall next to me. Next time you are at the Abbotsford Gun Club look up about midway down range, the scar of the bullet is still there.

HKfan - read the above. I have to admit I have not paid much attention to what different "Cocks" look like. But I have no problems with guys like you, who do.

Wow, you guys.....getting a little carried away aren't we? So in perspective....we don't have CCW'S in Canada, right, so why do we draw from a holster at the range? We also don't have 5 or 8 or 10 coke bottle shaped targets running away or to us right? Defensive Pistol? in Canada? Tactical for civie's? Sniper Match for Civie's? OK....I'll give my head a shake right now..So, if someone wants to wear a vest and play the game a little fuller than the rest, why not, aren't we all trying to enjoy this sport for what it is? A sport

I am not sure what wearing a vest has to do with playing the games other than for safety.

Having shot both IPSC and IDPA the former offers nothing "practical" in the way of shooting IMHO. Skills such as shooting on the run I guess come close. IDPA is a game with some practical applications and for me, the most fun as it combines accuracy in shooting with speed based loosely on the concept of CCW. IPSC it seems to me, combines speed with accuracy and there is a difference. Both are fun in their own way and if nothing else gets you out with like minded men & women.

No we don't have legal concealed carry in Canada but I am sure there are members of this forum who do carry on occassion despite the law. If I had a need, I would, but for most of my day to day activities I don't and I don't.

Sometimes I think I need to wear plates under my orange while hunting, so I am not sure a simple "under shirt" vest is out of order on range.

At the Justice Institute the Brinks firearms instructors certainly wore vests. Don't blame them in that scenario! I personally wouldn't wear one at the range or at a match with experienced shooters, but if you have one, go for it.
 
CDP has a rule book?

Where in the IDPA Rule book does it say you are not allowed to wear inside the shirt vest? Just went through the book and can see no refernce to this.

I really don't see what the big ####ing deal is. If someone wants to wear armor, that's their choice. It's no one elses business.
