Bullets and loads we wish were still available.

A few more oldies or examples I have from memory lane, for those that may be interested.

Some older 22 ammo, that I haven't shot off, yet. The Whiz Bang has 'left the building'. I'm a shooter not a collector.

Some older 12ga 'stuff' and the paper case shells in the foreground are 2 3/4" 10ga that used to be great for use over decoys. The item in the background in center 'was' of started out life as a tea cozy in England but here, with a little water proofing transformed into a Duck hunting hat.:D

And for longer range, pass shooting Ducks & Geese, 10ga. 3 1/2" Mag loads the best of which, for me, was the Federal Premium. Included is a reprint of Shotguns by Keith in which a reference was made to an article he wrote Deuces For Gooses. :)Guess the Goose shot size of two of the pictured boxes.

2of4Normas.jpg

And, from Norma and Schultz & Larsen, two of the four of my favorites from yester year. ;)The bone in the photo, shot on the Island, wasn't shot with either if the two calibers or firearms pictured. I could tell you what was used, but then I'd have to kill you:p.

And three of the four favorites from/for Norma, Schultz & Larsen and Husqvarna. Missing is representation of the 358 Norma Magnum. I'll correct that on the next photo op.

You don't miss a stitch do you Johnn?
Even your granddaughter has been finger trigger trained already.
There's a tongue twister for you.
Who did that full bear mount on the wall?
Great photos.
Thanks.

With 'assistence' from Walmart I helped her bag her first Bear. She's a little older now and unlike my Daughter and Son, she's right handed so eventually I'll pass down the 30-06 light weight Husqvarna I inherited from my Dad.

The Bear mount on the wall I picked up at a mall in Sherwood Park AB on a visit to the area.

Anyone remember the first Remington bronze points?
Pretty much didn't expand at all.
But, they had their uses.
One of our guys fired a 180 grain from a 300 Savage that went through a five inch maple, lost it's jacket on the outside of the deers hide, and the core made it to the off side hide.
Nice buck, I forget how big the rack was, but he did get it mounted.
The guy was still carting that jacket last I talked to him. His lucky charm.

Not all the oldies were so great.

Shortly after I purchased my 2nd 308 NM, a Schultz & Larsen, the guy I got it from brought me a quantity of brass and some of Normas published reload info material. The best load I've ever worked up for it was one using the 200gr Sierra SBT and IMR 4350, which I've posted previously.

With the brass the guy brought me, there were four loaded rounds his Dad had made up. Norma used to manufacture four 30 cal 180gr bullets, two of which were what they called Dual core. One of the two had a dimple in the nose tip, much like the old C.I.L. pneumatic and they are shown on the old Norma bullet display board located above the window in my reloading room.

The four live rounds I was given were loaded with this 'dimpled'/HP bullet and 72grs of Norma 204. I don't have a picture or scan of that target as I wasn't scanning, saving and/or recording results at that time. I distinctly recall however, the four shots grouped into 5/8" at 100 yds. I did contact Norma in an attempt to obtain some more of those bullets but they are no longer manufactured and haven't been for quite some time.

How these dimpled 180gr dual core bullets would do on game I can't say but with the Norma factory 180gr dual core I never had any difficulty 'anchoring' Moose or Mule Deer.

Response

Just sent 'them' an e-mail. I'll let you know the response.

This is the e-mail I received this morning in response to my inquiry on Winchester 348 WCF ammo and components, primarily the Silvertip bullets used.

Starting to feel kinda' lucky to have obtained the two old boxes of 200gr Silvertips that I did find.

I guess once they're gone it'll be back to the Hornady 200gr FP interlocks and the 220gr and 250gr Barnes Originals

Betcha don't shoot them. I'm guessing hoarding them will be their lot. ;)

.

To a degree, you're correct:). But, if it's a firearm that appears to be turning into a safe Queen, it's history. Sort of the same thing holds true for ammo or components. If I have it, it's going to get used. The other 348 bullets I've mentioned will be used on a regular basis. As for the Silvertips I have, if I get more, they'll get regular use as well. If all I get is what I have, I'll hold them aside for actual hunt use, but they will be used, guaranteed.
ie:
Recently used up the last of my 22 Whiz Bangs
