Bullets vs Kevlar

The Blended Metals 9mm cut right through our test vest.

As to the efficacy of kevlar vs a knife. We tried that too. Maybe older generations of vests were more susceptible but this level 2 vest was a lot more knife resistant that expected.

It was stabbed full power with a very sharp Sykes Fairbain commando knife. While the blade did penetrate all 21 layers of kevlar, it only came out about an inch on the back side. A couple of less pointy knives were tried and they only pricked their tips out the back side of the vest.

Thus, it is not nearly so easy to stab through a kevlar vest as the previous statements would have us believe.

What exactly is a frangible round? Is it like a flechette or some type of prohib ammo?

Also, yes it is very hard to penetrate Kevlar with a knife. I have tried with a friends lvl 2 armour. Shotgun slug went right through it though.

use it to make a more informed choice on their body armour QUOTE]

How many get tho "choose" their armor??
Youi wear what you're issued.

Just cause your issued a vest doesn't mean you wouldn' be able to upgrade the armor and add plates and use the issued carrier. Seems to me, most that need vests opt out of the 'extras' (t-plates) because they make the vest heavier or less comfortable to wear...

Frangible ammo is designed to fall apart on impact. Generally that means powdered copper or some other metal combined with a glue matrix and pressed into the shape of a bullet.

And this type of ammo designed to fall apart on impact actually penetrated the vest? Wow.

Thats probaly the same crazy guy I saw on tape putting a 44 Magnum to his chest and firing it same result he to puy a telephone book under his vest, when asked why he did this he reply that he had confidence in the vest but as he did this alot it cut down on the bruesing.
Talk about standing behind your product.

The fellow who Second Chance Body Armor is Richard Davis.

I have had a tape of him doing the .44 Mag thing, and being shot in the chest with a FN FAL.

The shooter was standing 10' away and Davis stood on one leg. When hit, he took a little hop backwards and that was it.

It was to prove that you don't get blown backwards when shot like in the movies.

For every action, there is an equal and opposite re-action.If the force was enough to knock DAVIS over, then the shooter would have been knocked over as well.

SKBY.

Hi, are you sure that the IVI 9mm was 124 grain? if so what year ?
Not doubting you, all of the IVI that I've shot was 116 grain at 1450 fps average, out of a glock 17.

Oh by the way, nice work.

Cheer's
Bill

Concur. 9mm Ball Cdn MK1 and the newer 9mm Ball Luger both use the same 115 gr bullet.

something to keep in mind with the old kevlar and kevlar vest, we all think of the best case when the bad guy pulls his gun and shoots you in the chest or back(you could be an officer:)). but think about this, if the bullet comes in at an angle and lets say the round misses the ballistic plate and the kevlar going in but doesn't miss coming out the other side. that bullet will bounce around inside your kevlar vest enough times to make your insides all..........mushy.

Bullets don't deflect well off a kevlar vest, as it is soft enough to give. It is however possible to deflect one off a trauma plate.

What a complete and utter load of CRAP! Where do people get these ideas?

Kevlar is SOFT. Things don't bounce when they hit soft things.

In all my testing we had exactly one bullet bounce and it didn't come back hard enough to hit me standing all of 2 feet above the vest.
