I always thought that Bullpups couldn't be legally owned here, I know that there were Walther.22's that the libs wanted to prohibit, or should I say the firearm was legal as long as rear (butt, and mag) were removed, rendering it a piece scrap. If I understood properly we are allowed to own them so what models can we purchase here:confused:

In general terms the stocks that you add to your rifle are prohibited. Guns in bullpup configuration, that cannot be used with the stock removed are ok. This question comes up alot and you might want to try a search.

Thanx

So if I understand properly I can buy a ar-17, but I cannot modify my sks-d into a bullpup design:rolleyes:

Think of it this way. Can you fire the rifle with out the bullpup features?

Basically, stocks that make a current non-bullpup rifle are illegal.

Sweet!
I guess I had better order a Mossberg 500 bullpup shotgun. :D

No, because the 500 Bullpup is just a stock 500 dropped into a bullpup stock, and bullpup stocks are prohibited; where you have a design like the WA2000, or the Keltec RFB, the RECEIVER is "the stock", so those are OK.

Well, it has been at least 5 weeks since a noobie wandered in here claiming that bullpups are prohibited. Maybe people's nerves have calmed down since last summer when there were 2-3 a week making the claim.

Everytime I read about the legal issues around Bullpups, a few more brain cells die....

I really try to understand it, but it makes my brain hurt, likely the law would send a Vulcan into convulsions. At least it's a great example to explain how stupid the law is.

You won't be able to buy a bullpup at 99% of the gun stores in Canada, as those stores generally don't cater to anyone other than hunters. As such, the guys in those stores usually have no concept of the exact definitions of the law outside of hunting regulations. There should be a post somewhere in the forums here exactly stating the law, which says that a bullpup is prohibited if the rifle can be fired without the stock. However, if the rifle requires the bullpup stock to function, then the firearm is legit. Basically, if the firearm was designed as a bullpup, then it's ok. If you turn a regular stock firearm into a bullpup, you're a bad boy. If you want a bullpup here in Canada, ask one of the CGN sponsoring dealers. They're properly in the know. Otherwise you'll have to talk to some of the guys on here that were the first to get these FN bullpups into the country. Sxyglock and Strangeday immediatley come to mind.

Not prohib but good luck finding one for under 5k. The states won't export them. I "think" the way the bullpup thing works is that you can't modify a gun to be a bullpup (why the sks and 10/22 bullpup kits are prohib) and it will be prohibited if you can fire it without the stock, which I really don't get but anyway.....
