Bunny Slayer of Choice

I use a Citori 20 GAuge with 26" bbls and whenever possible 1oz of 5s. I hunt with dogs, if I am without a dog, I like to take a .22 but it has been a long time since I got a bunny with a .22. This year, I am going to try a bow.

When we hunted wabbits as teens we used 12ga Rem 870(me) or mozzy bolt 20ga(John) or a double 12 sxs (Don) and all of us usually killed what we saw without dogs. We did run into a group of Italians in the same area and one of them was using 12ga slugs (no exaggeration). He held up a bag of something looked like the rabbit had strapped on tnt and pulled the pin. Thinking of trying a 410 double for grouse and may take a shot at a wabbit if I am close enough but if they are like the hares we used to hunt in Ontario I will go back to the 12ga pump every time. Those big hares can cover a lot of ground in a hurry.

I use this on bunnies...

Pretty effective and doesn't wake up the neighborhood!

I hunt rabbits....ALOT. Heres the thing....if I had my SG, the damn things would be sitting 50 yds out looking at me....If I brought the .22, they'd be ripping by at mach 5.

I ended up purchasing 2 savage model 24's. One is .22 LR over 20, the other is .22 mag over 20. EXCELLENT bunny/grouse guns as you are set up for anything! I keep it set to the SG barrel for those flushing shots that the 20 guage excells at, and if I get a sitting shot its a flick of the lever and I have a rimfire ready to go. I bought both 'cause I didn't know if I'd want to keep the LR or the Mag....the .22 mag is staying with me and the LR is going on the EE this week. Onlyt reason is that the last time I was out a coyote ##### decided to make an appearance, and the mag came in handy for that.

Buy a 24, you will never be sorry!

That's what my dad uses, a 24C, 22lr over 20 I/C and 18.5" bbls.

I use a Win 62A or a Rem 597 in .22 LR., or my recurve. Bwana Dave's reply, though droll, is advising you to commit an offence under the game regs for your area. Snares are illegal south of the French & Mattawa rivers.
And no, Dave...I didn't take you seriously.

Probably my GrandFather's Model 1912 Win in 20 gauge.
It's been bringing home critters without fail in my Family for the better part of a century.
