I don't know how far you intend to shoot, but my rifle with a Burris 2.75X Scout Scope allows me to shoot well out to a quarter mile. If you can spot the target unaided, shooting it with 2.75X magnification is not difficult. I think your problem is two fold. First you need to determine if the pistol scope will work with 13" of eye relief, and secondly is, if you will have enough field of view, even at the lowest magnification, for the scope to be useful. My guess is that it would be alright at 3X, but would become increasingly difficult to use as power increases.
