Our local Canadian Tire flyer [sale ending May 30] was advertising a Burris mfg scope 3-9x40mm on sale [reg $179.99 on for $139.99]. Cdn Tire item #175-9532-4.

I went & looked at one. Has the Burris "ballistic plex" reticle. Matte blue finish. Seemed pretty nice for a lower end price scope.

Noticed that this scope is badged as the "Prevail" model. It's on the box end as well as printed on the scope itself. On the box end it says it's item #200092. I checked the Burris website on-line & they don't list the "Prevail" anywhere there.

Closest thing on the Burris website is the "Droptine" model. The Droptine 3-9x40mm scopes are item #'s 200018 & 200019 depending on whether the scope is for the .22lr or centerfire. Same over all look & specs. However, the turret knobs & power adjustment ring are slightly different between the Droptine model on the website & this "Prevail" model that Cdn Tire is selling.

I posted a question on the Burris website & got an email confirmation that they'd received it but so far no answers from them about it.

Maybe a special run scope for Canada sale only? Thoughts?

Anyone running one of these "Prevail" scopes on their rifle? Feedback?

Well, despite posting my question twice on the Burris website asking about this "Prevail" model scope, they moderated the question so it never appeared. And they never answered either there or in a return email which they request when you post a question there. Pretty disappointing, as it was just a question. All they had to do is confirm it was a model for foreign sales or to that effect.

And it would appear no one here has any info on it either. So, will remain a mystery. ;)

i would call there customer service line, it would put someone on the spot and would have to give you an answer of somesort.. i know its not the nicest thing to do but getting an answer is about customer service whether its good or bad, also have me curios.

I was on the Burris website today; representative confirmed Prevail scope is a canadian tire exclusive, droptine model.

Interesting.... so I just went & checked the Burris website & the question was answered by them:

The Prevail is a Canadian Tire exclusive Burris scope. The specs would be in line with the Droptine series of scopes.

Guess there was a delay in them getting to it. But they did eventually, I see.

Edit.... my local Cdn Tire is actually selling the Burris 'Droptine' model now, too. The .22 lr version 3-9x40mm with ballistic plex reticle is $274.99, even considerably more than what the Prevail version was retail before the sale.

I just picked one up at my local ctc for my ruger american ranch in 7.62x39. I also looked at the redfield 2-7 and the leupold vx freedom 3-9 they had on hand , the leupold seemed a little brighter at full power, but the burris has better feeling adjustments. seems like a good scope for the money.

I'd be interested in a 'range report' on this scope in use when you get a chance.

I mounted it up last week but haven't made it to the outdoor range yet. Anything in particular your curious about?

Had it out to the range, its on an ruger american ranch 7.62x39. I have to say I really like the scope, very crisp and clear, I could actually see my shots on paper at 100 yards on 9x. The adjustments were crisp and positive. I only shot at 25 and 100 yds about 100rnds through it so far.

Im just about to buy a Burris "prevail" model, 3-9x40mm to put onto my Model Seven .308 --
with the Droptine being marketed down here, i was able to get the price down on the older prevail, $50 savings for a total of $279 plus a little postage for total under $300 ! pretty good value for Australia---
the droptine model 3-9x40 is retailing around $380...

should suit fine as had a fullfield 2 a while ago an it worked fine on many 308/30-06 etc
looking forward to it all coming together sooon

keen to hear if anyone else has used these prevail or droptine scopes?

I had a Burris droptine 3-9x40 Rimfire on a .22.
Lovely clear glass and a bright image. Nice, compact scope and well made. Burris Med-height QD rings made a handy little package.

I’ve since swapped it out for another Burris with more magnification, but still second guessing my decision.

Yeah sweet!
im sort of spun by the price between something like a burris 3-9x40 an then up to the next level of scopes, debatably the leupold line up... a good $700 for a 3-9x40 freedom...
other in betweens i just havnt used or looked through to put money down online, my old fullfield 2 was battered but worked good... but i disliked the ocular ring turning for zoom, i think these newer models eliminate that!? i bloody hope so anyway

I made the mistake of buying a Burris Prevail and I'll categorically state I wouldn't buy anything again bearing the name. I had the Prevail on a .300 WM for an elk hunt and it almost ruined the hunt. I shot at a small bull and missed and couldn't get it focused for a second shot. I thought what the heck is going on? Come to find out, something had broken inside. As the box says "guaranteed for life", I contacted Stoeger Canada who had or perhaps still has the repair contract. I completed the service request, told them WHAT PRODUCT I HAD, got an authorization number and paid the $40 to send it, insured to STOEGER. Several days later I receive the scope back with a note saying it is broken BUT, Stoeger doesn't repair the Prevail line and to take it back where I bought it. Fantastic, I just paid $40 to Can Post to find out that I indeed did have a broken scope. Something I already knew. After the usual argument at Can Tire trying to convince the customer service girl that it is a "guaranteed for life" scope and they should indeed stand behind them, I finally got a replacement. It is now on a .22 that I use for gophers and I certainly wouldn't dare use it on hunting rifle. Now before someone says, "you must have dropped it", nope, nada. Not so much as a bump. It was either just a garbage scope or a bad one off. I don't know but I'll never buy another, nor rely on their warranty in Canada.

I didn't think Canadian Tire was a big enough scope seller to commission their own special run.

Who makes the cheap Cabelas Pine Ridge ?

I also have a fullfield 2 4.5-14x42. And yes, the magnification ring is annoying as it is connected to the ocular and can’t be used quickly or effectively with scope caps.

Also fullfield 2 only has 40moa of adjustment so even maxed out on elevation, the poi is a few inches low from my .22 at 50yds. I have since removed it and am still looking for a suitable replacement.
Saying that, it does have nice clear glass and adj. objective is useful.

The new fullfield 4s have 80moa of adjustment and the magnification adjustment is independent of the ocular adjustment.
The magnification adjustment on the droptine is also forward of the ocular so doesn’t interfere with scope caps or quick magnification changes.

I found the glass on the newer fullfield 4s and droptine to be exceptionally clear - even better than the fullfield 2s.

I cannot speak to the warranty, but I’d expect Burris to stand by their warranty claims.

Not sure of availability down under, but I’m looking at Riton scopes at the moment. Seem a nice balance of price and features - HD glass, side adj. objective, lifetime warranty and included scope caps.

I'm very confident that you will be very pleased with RITON. I bought my first 3 or 4 years ago, a 4-18 x 44, a Primal 1, and it has given flawless service on my 6.5 x 55 SE varmint rifle. A year ago, I was looking for a scope for my CZ455 Bench Rifle Build. I bought a 1 Conquer 6-24 x 50. This has made it very easy with the right ammo to shoot sub MOA at 100 yards. There is enough elevation adjustment in the scope that with a 40 moa rail, I can still zero at 20 yards and dial up past 300 with the zero stop feature. I went with the simpler R3 Reticle as it is very un cluttered. They both track perfectly and are repeatable; clicks are distinct and tactile, clarity is amazing.

While it is doubtful that I will ever need to upgrade either of these scopes, if I did, I would still go to Riton first.
