Bushmaster ACR Non-Restricted Review & Range Report

Dang.

Even the restricted is expensive and the penalty for going NR (I know it costs more for the extra barrel) is steep.

If it was around $2-2.5K NR I'd take 2.......

Well, there are other (less expensive) options... ranging from the IWI Tavor, FN FS2000, RobArms XCR and Benelli MR1 on the lower end of the price spectrum. And possibly the Beretta ARX160 later this year.

GOD DAMN ####!!!! You couldn't wait another week until I could afford buying your ACR?!!!:D

Grrrr....Maybe a Tavor will calm my nerves :p

Sorry man, its everything I can do not to pull the add. I posted it for sale a couple days ago and then pulled quickly. I'm so conflicted.

Too many wants and not enough cash. Such is life. :(

Yes, I was looking at one of the new ones at P&D yesterday. I really like the new rail on top, as well as the dual BUIS. Not really sure why it is sold with dual BUIS, but it looks cool. If someone could convince me they shot any better than before, I'd be tempted. Every time I touch one, I get tingles, but then I shoot it at 100 yds and the tingles go away.

Or next. Meanwhile, the Tavors sure seem to have dropped in price...

The only thing that has got my heart rate going from last years shot show was the ARX160 and it still gets me going.

I will have one :)

####, I can totally understand need vs. want vs not enough time/money.

I say keep it, you'll just regret selling it off :)

Not really. They don't include the M21 sight now.

No Tavor owners I know ever used the M21 anyway (first thing to be removed and sold). If memory serves they were up to around $3,399 with the factory rail and M21 at one point, so I guess if you value the M21 optic at $700 then they're still the same price.

+1 on the ARX160. I think this has bar-none the slickest barrel removal system. I am not optimistic that we'll see spare barrels right away, but I still love it the same just from a maintenance/cleaning standpoint (same with the ACR).

What's different with the new rail and dual BUIS? Are they flip-up or something? I still love my Tavor. I know the trigger and accuracy could be better, but it's still such a riot in a compact package...

I used the M21 for a bit. I didn't have any issues with it. The main problem was I'd rather have some magnification on a non restricted rifle with a 18.5" barrel in 223.

$3300 with the factory rail and quick release/bullseye reticle M21. $3000 for the regular with M21 bullseye but no quick release and regular rail. I think they were going to raise the price though. Which if so this move with the rail and no optic was a very smart decision.

I agree that the Tavor is a better deal overall and what people are looking for without the M21. Although the M21 was valued at about $500 for the regular one if I recall correctly from when the Tavor first came out. Frankly I prefer the factory rail I have that doesn't go all the way to the front. It looks better. I'm a bit suspect of the suspended (suspension bridge) rail along the front for stability. That and it looks funny. :p

I use the M21 on my non restricted CX4 Storm. works great on a firearm that is difficult to put sights on. I do prefer the eotech but the Eotech was designed for the AR. With firearms that have charging handles on the left it often gets in the way. Also the Bullseye reticle is a copy of the Eotech one and is much better than the original release. The quick release works well. I also have one on an Armalite AR15 that came with a Fab defence stock. I decided to make it look like an Israeli version :D.

Flaws: Washes out if you're in dark and the area looking into is bright. The mount isn't as solid.
Plus: Everyone was putting them up for a fire sale. No batteries, no buttons and it's ready to go. Has worked well for me.

I'm wondering about that too. Maybe it has the rear flip up like mine (is part of the rail) and the regular Buis?

I have the last version before this latest shipment:

Also waiting for the ARX160 :D.

The ACR had my interest but... I think the Tavor along with the ARX160 will be my choice for my most modern firearms. ACR is tempting but... I've managed to resist so far.

That or the Dlask, which I have installed on mine (I have one of the first-gen ones, so no issues there). And yeah, I'm not a big fan of the full-length rail for aesthetic reasons, too; I don't mind the fixed flip-up factory BUIS, either.

I had a second Tavor at one point, so when I factor in the sale/related trades of that and the M21 optic and apply towards the original Tavor (which I got for a great price that included an EOTech) - I'm into mine for about half of what a new one goes for. So even with the "less-than-stellar" trigger - it's a keeper.

I definitely want to check out the ARX160. Realistically I think we're looking at Spring-Summer 2013, but one never knows.

Well, if you find one - snag it. I have a sneaky suspicion that we're just not going to see very many of them, to be honest. And once Bushmaster rolls out those new lighter barrels it's totally a game changer.
