I have a budget of $1000 or so for a scope for my 50. I was looking at the Bushnell elite 6500 4.5-30X 50mm Tactical scope. Any one have first hand reviews?

i have one. it seems to be good. i used it to shoot groups under a half inch at 200 yards. scope doesn't have much for internal elevation adjustment, about 50 moa. if this is your price range, i would strongly consider the noted or a sightron. ask mystic precision, listed in banner ads, what he thinks as he has experience with both.

I have a 6500 elite 4.5-30x50 on my Lapua while I wait for my nightforce... Not a bad scope but pretty dark and hard to find the sweet spot at 30x magnification. Otherwise I like the scope but am hesitant to use it above 22x or so.

Please explain, Sweet spot? Parallax won't hold, or focus???

I have am an Elite 6500 4.5-30 on my TRG and I find it to be a good scope but to be perfectly honest, out of the Bushnell Elite range I think the Elite 4200 6-24 is the better value. Both offer clear glass ( not Nightforce clear but not Nightforce price either ) and of the several I own, both 6500 and 4200 are reliable. Both suffer from limited internal adjustment but that can be compensated for by built in MOA on a rail so I do not consider it to be too big of an issue.

Though I personally do not own one, I have been impressed by the Sightron scopes I have looked through and if I was in the market for a 1K priced scope I would consider their line.

For some unknown reason the 6500, 4.5-30x50 Tactical (#65-4305T) has been discontinued by Bushnell. This was our best selling 6500 last year. We have one left at $916. I agree that the 4200, 6-24x50 Tactical (#42-6245T) is an excellent deal considering it is $728 and very similar peformance to the 6500. Also consider the new Minox Z5A/30 6-30X56 with BDC or XR-BDC reticle for for $849. The Minox have Schott (Zeiss) lenses and are assembled in the USA to compete with the Zeiss Conquest line. Phil.

Phil,

i dont see that in the bushnell website
http://www.bushnell.com/products/scopes/riflescopes/elite6500/654305T/

but i dont have for now the 2011 price list so dont know if they re importing for the canadian market.

The tactical 4.5-30x50 does not appear on the 2011 price list and when I tried to add it to my order they said it could not be done. Bushnell is doing a lot of restructuring of it's Elite series models during the next year and it may re-appear in a different format. Elite 3200 and 4200's will eventualy be discontinued and replaced with a hybrid Elite model that will be a mix of the two for features, quality and price. Time will tell if that was the right move. Phil.

I upgraded to a 6500 4.5-30 MD last year for my 223, works great for punching paper at 200-400m. It has good clear optics and has been mechanically solid in all my target shooting so far, no complaints at all. Making some steel targets this spring so I hope to try it out at 600m plus real soon.
