I've come into possession of an older Bushnell scope that, according to the previous owner, has some issues. Evidently, when sighting in, the zero moves like it's suppsoed to but at a certain point the crosshairs spring back to the starting point. I'm not a scope guy by any means but it sounds like a tension spring (is that what it;s even called?) problem. The scope is marked Bushnell Custom 3x-9x and then on the bottom is marked 3-9x38 Japan.

First question, does anyone know what sort of scope this would be comparable to in today's Bushnells? I've never come across a Bushnell Custom so have no idea really.

Secondly, if i fire this back to Bushnell for servicing and repair what sort of response am I likely to get?

Thanks,
ILBR:)

I have never heard of this model of Bushnell and can't give a comparison for a current model. Most Bushnell scopes carry a lifetime limited warranty. This means if the scope failed under regular use it will be repaired or if this is not possible replaced with a current scope of similar value. If the scope has external damage or Bushnell determines it was abused they wont' cover it.

Bushnell

I've sent three scopes in and they have sent three replacment
scopes back over a 10 year period, two were used when I got
them.I've had good luck with them, don't know about others.

The old bushnell scopes made in Japan were good scopes. You could put them on nearly any rifle and not be scared of the cross hairs falling out. I have sent several bushnell scopes in and had very good service from them. If the scope you have is no longer made they will replace with a comparable scope. -----Cowboy

agreed the 38 is a bit confusing- every bushnell i've ever seen is either a 40mm or a 32- anyway, they've been very good at replacing product for me- and since the one you have is hatched , i'd say it's worth the 10 buck "inspection fee"- it costs typically 5 bucks to send it in if you pack it properly-

I sent in 3 bushnells for repair (through a gun shop). 2 were repaired one was replaced, all without charge. I sent in an B&L Balvar myself and it was repaired but it took about 3 months. I think its a lot quicker if you send them through a dealer, also I think there is an issue of the warranty being to the "original owner" and that is not likely to come up if a dealer sends it in. Certainly no problem with the warranty though.

Warranty is to scope not the owner and it doesn't matter who sends it in. We don't find we get any faster response from Bushnell than our cutomers when they send the scope back.

I have had two scopes replaced by them, and one pair if Bausch & Lomb binoculars. They were slow, however, and took 3-4 months to do so each time.

I had to really fight with them on the binoculars. There was not a mark on them, but the collimation was terrible and you could not look through them wo seeing a double image. They originally sent a letter and said they would not be covered on warranty, that they could not have left the factory like that and must have been abused. I called and asked to have someone take another look at them, as they were like new in every respect. No change, the answer was the same.

The next time I called I asked to speak to the supervisor of the warranty and repair dept. Asked if he would personally look at them. He said he would. Called me back in about ten minutes and said they had made a mistake and they took care of the problem.

Other than the long service time, I have been very satisfied.

Whats the best way to get hold of the CS? I've called and the number on the website is down and two e-mails no reply.

One month ago I contacted Bushnell about a faulty scope.
Promptly bushnell's rep said they put in an order for a replacement and it would be shipped soon.
My follow up from last week remained unanswered.

after I typed that, the next day, Fedex delivered the replacement
the delay came from them, the driver could not read the address properly
