Bushnell vrs Leupold

I want to state firstly that I am an engineer in manufacturing enviornment. I also own Bushnell and Leupold scopes. Both for over 15 years. I have never had any issues with either manufacturer. My bushnells are made in Japan. IMO you cannot get any better quality than Japanese quality. Japanese workmanship is second to NONE. As a prof. eng. If you are going to buy a leupold you can buy any one of their line of products. If you buy a bushnell buy an elite series they are all made in Japan.

IMO you cannot go wrong with an elite series scope or any leupold!

I can tell you that japanese people take great pride in thier workmanship. I can also tell you I have seen some god forseen lazy bumbs in north american manufacturing. I have no exp. in the leupold manufacturing facility.

Hmmmm, this has been an odd thread...

George, your engineering diploma while a worthy credential doesn't qualify you as an expert in optics - unless you work in manufacturing optics? There is an enormous amount of real life experience on this site. As has been mentioned real life experience means a lot more than an engineer who has owned a couple of scopes for 15 years. I mean heck, I 've got three scopes (two Leupold's and a Bushnel) that are probably older than you are...

A couple of points here:
1. You will learn more by being humble about how much you know - because there is usually someone that knows more on any given topic.

2. Running down a group like North American manufacturing personnel is not productive or appropriate. Is some North American manufacturing poor in quality? You bet, just like you would find from anywhere. There is also some North American produced products that set the bar worldwide for quality.

FWIW, I do agree that Bushnel Elite series and Leupold's at or above VX3's are pretty good mid range glass.

George is correct in that the quality of Japanese Bushnells is head and shoulders above the Chinese ones. That comes as no surprise.

Other than that...

I have and do own every scope known to man kind, bar none, and I am not bragging about it, just have the resources to do so. For the money, The Buchnell Elite 6500 series scope is second to none. The Schmidt & Bender is top quailty in ALL aspects and would be my FIRST selection if you can afford them, their only downfall is pricing! NO , I will not make any further comments, just my 50+ years of experince to state what I have stated!

Experience with each brand trumps all. your engineering certificate means nothing to most of us. But thanks for your opinion.

Leupold FTW

It's not a certificate it called a Degree. :D

As for my intent...if your buying a bushnell buy a Japanese made bushnell. Plain and simple.

I will only support bushnell and leupold as they have invested in us....Canadians by setting up shop here to help support us.

On another note I don't know how bushnell can offer a lifetime warranty on a >100$ (that's the less than symbol for all you #### talkers:) by the way!! ), nor will I find out.

I HATE anyone who won't stand up to their word!

Not supporting King Optics? Made in Nova Scotia.

Kindermann in Ontario services Swarovski and Kahles.

Gentec In Ontario services Zeiss.

How can Bushnell have a Lifetime Warranty on a less than $100 scope? Same reason Triple Edge wiper blades and most K-Tel stuff has Lifetime warranty. No one wants it back repaired, it gets tossed in the garbage. :)

I have very limited experience on different brands but have been very pleased with my Bushnell's. I have Banner, Trophy, and a couple 4200's, along with a couple Burris FullfiledII. The same rule applies to scopes as almost anything else...you get what you pay for. When I purchased my last 4200 (2.5-40X40) and compared it to VX-II, I thought it was optically equal or better and very close to the VX-3. However I decided on the 4200 because I paid $380.00 at Lebaron and could not find a VX-11 3-9X40 for that kind of money.
