Bushnell vs Vortex

I think he is a sales rep for LOW ;)

No, but I think they are a decent scope company. My last purchase was a Sightron II Big Sky (1" tube and 60 moa adjustment). They are not made by LOW, but another Japanese company. Sightron appears to be American, but it is really owned by a Japanese company.

I like to be informed about what I buy, and do a bit of research to find the real story behind the scene. I find it concerning that a company would sell a scope under one name made by LOW in Japan to gain a good reputation, and then it magically starts to be delivered with a Made in Philippines sticker. It is kind of like buying a Costco Kirkland product. The name on the box stays the same, but who is really making it. Not that there is anything wrong with Kirkland (most of the time...).

There is no plastic in Vortex's turrets adjustment system. In fact I would be surprised if anyone used plastic there. What you heard was partially true though, almost. Let me clarify, last year Vortex catalogued a scope called the Viper PST, it was meant as a mid priced long range precision shooting/tactical scope. Unfortunately, the entire production run was scrapped because the metal used in the adjustment turrets was not hard enough, and after a few rotations of the turrets, there were no more clicks. So Vortex scrapped the whole thing and took it back to the design process. Their philosphy was it is better to lose a customer due to non delivery than to lose that customer due to shoddy product. They have rectified the problem, and they are now starting to deliver these scopes to dealers.

And another note, Vortex runs quality control checks on 100% of all Razor and Viper scopes, with frequent spot checks on the Diamondback and Crossfire line.

Thanks Crash, that's probaly what we were hearing and the cause/source od the problems. That says alot about a manufacturer and if that's the case, I'd buy another one of their products.:dancingbanana:

Funny sometimes, the responses you get here to legitimate questions.

Crashmans answer was researched and polite to the point:), not leaving much to question.:agree:

Thanks, I appreciate the sentiments. :D

Wow, this discussion is really going the distance! :dancingbanana:

of course I didnt take it apart lol

So you understand why i asked such an obviusly silly question. You know now I was referring to the scope internally, and not anything external in my OP.

I've run off half cocked after not reading or understanding what the previous poster was stating.

It's all good.:agree::canadaFlag:

still debating, Bushnell 4200 6-24x40 $400 all in
Viper 6.5-20x44 $465 all in
Viper is new, Bushnell almost new. Thoughts?

Is the Viper made in Japan like the Bushnell or the Phillipines? That would sway my choice. If made in Japan it is probably very similar in quality to the Bushnell. In Phillipines then ???

The scopes that I have owned that were made in the Phillipines were no worse than scopes made in Japan. Where something is made doesn't determine its quality. The factory's QC and spec limits are what matter. The Vipers are very high quality for the price, equally as good as the 4200, IMO.
