Bushnell Won't Give Warranty Told them to Shove it up their *ss

I had a Bushnell 2-7X compact scope that was about 10 years old the reticle broke in it earlier this year.

I sent it into Bushnell for warranty in early Feb to get it repaired under warranty.

I just heard back from them at the end of last week, they told me that the scope would cost to much to be repaired, they then offered me a supposed deal on a 3200 series 1.5 - 4X scope their deal would have cost me more than retail.

Told them to shove it up ther *ss and that I will never buy another Bushnell optic product again...

That's a real odd story..I brought in my Bushnell scope to the service centre in Markham. Guy took a look at it said it was broken and I walked out the door with a free new one. All was said and done in less than 20 minutes.

Not everyone can walk into the building. When you mail it, it may sit in the corner for 3 months before they even open the box.

Bushnell Canada is aware of problems in their warranty/repair system. Bushnell head office in the USA has had a slowdown in sales and thus have cut back on personel and will not allow their Canadian portion to expand (even though sales in Canada are up). Bushnell has aquired many additional lines like Uncle Mikes, Butler Creek, Stoney Point, Millet, Simmons however they have not increased their warrranty support in Canada to accomadate the additional work that has been generated. Most recently produced Bushnell optics have been very reliable especially the higher end models in the Elite series. Leupold service in Canada is second to none. Korth Gruop who reps and distributes Leupold exclusively in Canada rarely takes more than two weeks to repair and return warranty problems. To be fair to Bushnell they make an extremely wide line of optics that goes from absolute entry level (where the majority of warranty claims are from) to middle high end like the 6500 series while Leupold makes only high end and up so their problems are a much lowere percentage which you would expect on higher end more expensive optics. Also Korth Group id a privately owned company with the owner on site while Bushnell Canada is owned and controlled by the corporate offices in the USA. Phil.

Makes sense, I just wish they would pull their collective heads out of their arses soon. This company has been around for a long time and we've all seen where a blown reputation and consumer confidence will lead when it comes to big retail businesses. Corporate blinders will be their downfall eventually as the old generation of hunters, to whom Bushnell was a staple, are aging out of the demographic and today's hunters have not only personal experiences, but online research, to rely on for their product selection. With the internet now it doesn't take long for bad customer service to reach the masses and a reputation, once tarnished, is a long time in the remaking.

Personally I've got an older Bushnell 2-10x38 (I think - something like that anyways) that was mounted on an old Model 70 30-06 for years. One day it just quit holding zero. Probably due to age, definitely not due to abuse, but I'm hesitant to mail it in as from what I've read it sounds like too much of a hassle for an old scope. In it's day it was a quality Bushnell, not a cheapy by any means. I'm not even sure of a comparable Bushnell scope in today's line - it's marked Bushnell Custom on the tube and I haven't seen too many others around lately. Anyways, now it sits in a box somewhere in my basement.

Yep; Bushnell's Warranty has gone to s***! At one time they were pretty good, now it is a crap shoot. I buy Leupold, never any problem. [very few problems to start with] Regards, Eagleye.

Everyone knows that Leupold makes great scopes. Everyone knows Leupold has great after sales service. Lets stick with the higher end Bushnells (4200 and 6500 for example). For a similar quality scope with the same features you can almost equip 2 rifles with Bushnell for the price you will spend equiping one with Leupold. Its very hard for those of us without a money tree to ignore those facts.

False economy? I don't think so. You pays yer money and you takes yer choice.

Exactly warrenb. I see alot of folks complaining about some Bushnell Wal-Mart specials... Last I checked, Leupold was not a line carried at a super-conglomerate.

My 6500 Elite is just edging the "lower scale" of equivalent Leupolds. Of course, the Leupold carries a significant premium for an equivalently featured scope. What I got in my 6500 Elite for features for $851 at P&D, the equivalent Leupold sold for over $1k. A hundred and fifty bucks is alot to pay for insurance, which many won't ever need.

And unlike some folks on here, no, money doesn't grow on trees for me. :p

I sent a older Bushnell Scopechief back that would not hold zero and it was replaced with a Legend 2-7x32. No complaints here so far.

And that's the way it should be. Either warranty them all, or none. They shouldn't be picking and choosing who gets a new one and who gets nothing.

Imagine going to the car dealer and getting told that you're out of luck, cause you didn't buy the Lincoln, only the Focus...Even though both are supposed to be warrantied...

I'm going to disagree with you. When I was still coming up the "2 for one pricing" seemed like a good deal. Some initial good luck with bushnell seemed to confirm my judgement, and it wasn't that hard to convince myself that the very experienced shooters that told me I was pushing my luck were all wrong. Long and short of it, I ended up with a pile of them when they started breaking. Warranty or not, I had scopes going both ways in the mail, sitting for months without even getting looked at, being returned to break again, and scopes with wild parallax problems being declared as "within spec" The screws on my rings were getting worn out swapping scopes, replacing scopes, and testing scopes. It took a couple years to swap out practically every scope I owned to Leupold. Buying a couple dozen quality scopes in a short time hurts. Writing off the cost of a pile of elites to experience hurts too.

I just bought a brand new Bushnell Trophy 3x9x40mm w\ DOA reticle - took it to the gun shop to get it mounted etc took it out to some private land to zero it in and the zoom sticks at 6 and is ridiculously hard to turn to 9x.... so I start playing with it and eventually I get it to 9x.... so I shoot and it's high so I try to adjust the elevation down and the knob WILL NOT TURN.... I mean, not at all.... I've never turned the damn thing ever, the left to right works great, but the up\down is stuck....

FACKING BUSHNELL POS... I will be returning this scope and buying a Leupold.

This begs the question, if you could afford a Leupold scope already, why would you buy a Bushnell Trophy in the first place? That's a pretty big jump to make.

Everyone has to do that. The regular pattern is to buy junk, then lower midrange, then high midrange. If you live long enough you'll get into the high end stuff three days before you die. All in the name of economy.;)

Dogleg,
You have made so much sense up to now that I have to ask you what to my mind is the ultimate question.

Why do people buy Harleys?

I've read through this thread and if I've missed it, I apologize. So, I have to ask - did the scope in question ever have the Lifetime Warranty?

I will have to save some more money, it's more than I wanted to spend on a scope...... :\

And I LOOOOOVE the DOA reticle...
