I have a target model 10/22. A fine accurate rifle, fun to shoot, a bit finicky about ammo (doesn't like my favourite .22lr round... Rem subsonic) but not a joy to carry around. To make it more of a woods rifle, I reshaped and refinished the laminated wood stock and replaced the barrel with a Butler Creek carbon fibre barrel. Still nicely accurate, feels like a wand in your hands, with the balance between yours hands but, plagued with extraction problems
This barrel and the factory target barrel both have tight match chambers which don't always feed well and must be kept clean. With the BC barrel the rifle often fails to extract a live round while unloading, sometimes fails to eject as well. The directions with the barrel said to be sure the extractor wasn't binding, but once you tighten the dovetail barrel block, it goes where it wants. So I widened the extractor groove and I have reshaped the extractor to a sharper hook. Still not right. Any suggestions? I know you can buy after market parts, but can I make what I have work?
