Buying 500 fps+ air rifles from the US.

Some states like New Jersey do restrict them. In that state they view them as firearms and a permit is needed to purchase. Airgun rifles need the FID permit, and pistol airguns need a pistol permit for each one in New Jersey. There might some other restrictions in few other states.

Otherwise in most other states it is not viewed as a firearm.

WHERE do you guys get this information? I contacted both CBSA and CFC and was told as long as I had PAL, no problem for over 500 fps (joules) air rifles, HOWEVER, i was cautioned that the CBSA uses the FRT computer and the firearms are listed as prohibited or non restricted. Example, the the GAMO Whisper IS prohibited, but a similar non-silenced scoped version is NOT. So it depends on the CBSA agent, and IF they check the FRT, and IF its on the list. You will have to pay all duties too.

the quote about scopes needing an export permit is 100% correct. They are covered under ITAR, and cannot be legally exported without a permit. Stupid, I know but them's the rules.

then why is the scoped firearm in question on the CBSC FRT list as importable?
 
I called today and was told as far as the Firearms center is concerned as long as my PAL info if on the package no problem. They told me to contact our Ministry of Foreign Trade as well as the Department of Tobacco and Firearms in the US.

Our Foreign Trade said hey would issue an International Import Certificate that just tells the US that it ok for it to be imported, the certificate is free. I never did call the Tobacco folks.

Wish it was easier, I won a nice Benjamin on another forum in a draw and the generous person did not want the hassle of sending to Canada, so I forfeited the prize. I would hate to bust his balls as he was quite generous in offering the gun to members.
 
Confirmed again today that IMPORTING a 500+fps air rifle is simple as pie!

Picked up a rifle from Cabelas in the states, as it is not classed as a firearm in the US, they never even asked for identification.

Arrived at Canada Customs, and declared that I had a non-restricted firearm and handed over my PAL. Officer never batted an eye! "Have a nice day, Sir!"
 
it is up to you where you buy your airgun. with that said save your trouble and woories and get one from cabelas canada just as easy.
