Buying A Firearm , What Should Be Included

+1 I would never deal with him, after hearing about this situation.

Why dont you do us all a favor and give the seller the appropriate feedback. You are allowing him to screw the next guy if you dont man up and post some kind of rating. That is what the whole rating system is for.......

If you had read my previous posts, you would know that I am not the one that dealt with him.

Think the 10/22 was my deal. I told seller about this post. Gave him time to try to resolve it with no luck. Feedback is left. Don't think I was being unreasonable.

So if you purchase a firearm from an individual from an ad, and there is no stipulation in the ad about certain parts pictured not being included in the deal, what do you expect to receive?

Do you expect a magazine to be included?

Do you expect the sights to be included?

Do you expect the scope bases or rings to be included?

Sorry if this post turned into being about my deal.

The rifle in question is a 10/22 that was built from all aftermarket parts. The original ad had a comprehensive list of aftermarket parts included with the rifle including, what type of receiver, barrel, stock, trigger, bolt, cocking handle, and spare springs. No where in the ad was a mag mentioned

The receiver, which when originally purchased did not come with a mag. Therefore this rifle did not come from the factory with a mag (the factory being my garage).

The picture(s) sent did not have a mag in them.

The original post was highly detailed in what was included from muzzle to stock. I took the time to answer multiple questions about the various parts of this rifle. I have no time for someone who does not pay attention to detail, then tries to extort money from me by threatening a bad review.

This is the last comments I will make regarding this transaction.

Let me offer you some advice - apologize and send the guy a mag, money for a mag, or refund him and get the rifle back. You have a trader rating of 17 which you are throwing away. You are now going to lose a bunch of credibility and be put on a bunch of guys ignore list - all for a $15 factory mag, which you have in your parts?

I don't want to say this is what happened; but I recently had a deal where I forgot to include chokes with a shotgun.

I called the buyer when I realized what I had done (about a half hour after texting him the tracking number). Then I mailed the chokes in an envelope for the pittance of 3 stamps and 1.50; from SW AB to Southern Ontario! They arrived before the gun which cost 40 dollars to ship.

Rectifying that was so easy, but I could have just pretended that the chokes never came with the deal and saved myself 5 bucks I guess. Seems like someone made a different decision than me.

In all my deals on and off CGN (about an equal amount, so not a ton, but enough to form an opinion) I have been the seller primarily; I disclose what is included in the ad. I also do not take pictures of rifles with stuff that is not included; I hate it when people do this.

I wouldn't buy anything sight unseen myself unless it was from a seller with 100's of positive feedbacks or an active poster and BNIB.

Good advice, it takes time to build a good trader rating that will make it easy to deal with most people on this site, but you can throw it all away over one deal. That 10/22 magazine will result in many people refusing to deal with him, for years to come.

I'm surprised we are debating a deal gone sour in the EE here in the ''Hunting and Sporting Arms'' section.
Third party has a dog in the fight?
An easily resolved complaint that should have been resolved in the first set of communications between the two (buyer and seller)
Just another .05 worth of opinion.

Lots of wisdom in these words.

Oh, and them toes in photos..........don't wish them sent with the gun.

It's worth keeping this thread alive until Charlie figures out that to insist on being right about a technicality like this, is wrong. So many posts here point out that if he's so set on his details being clear, it is up to him to point out what is unusual about the sale. Not one of us would have imagined you could buy a 10/22 without the magazine.

$15 or $20? Reputation can't be bought, but it can be sold. This is the dumbest way to be right I have ever seen.

I saw this question raised on another forum as well. What I would expect to be included is whatever it left the factory with or at the very least an aftermarket replacement for that part. This would include the magazine as well as scope rings, sling studs and swivels, and the original sights either still mounted or unmounted. If any of these are missing then it should be clearly stated they are missing and not included, and if they are not the original parts, if you wish to be decent that could be mentioned as well.

But it was not resolved thats why we are debating it here. The seller had to know the buyer would be expecting a magazine. That makes it a small but significant con.

Good point.

I once sold a Mauser 98 that was drilled and tapped for weaver bases. Advertised it including the bases. Sold it to a nice fellow. Got a message a week later saying, "rifle looks good, but I thought you said it included bases?" I went downstairs and sure enough the bases are still on my shelf. Sent a message back apologizing and they are in the mail. Sometimes it is an honest mistake.

I have sent out owners manuals I forgot to include in spite of the fact that they were readily available online....

As for this situation, I agree with Hoytcanon in regard to rugers and including rings, but I still ask...... That being said, one thing he hit the nail on the head on, is that one should assume that they should be able to shoot their new purchase out if the box if not otherwise stated..... A 10/22 with no mag is absolutely useless, and cheaping out over $15 is ridiculous.... If the rifle is. Build and has that kind of money invested in it, surely a mag is warranted in its sale.... I wouldn't even think to ask.....

I have gone to great lengths to protect my trader rating, even sometimes doing something when I felt I was in the right and should not have had to do..... The ten bucks here or there on maybe 3 transactions of the 100 plus I have had has likely saved me hundreds or even thousands down the road.....
