A friend of mine has a winter house in Florida. A neighbourhood incident has prompted him to consider a home defence gun.

He is an ex-airborne guy and quite competent with guns. I reminded him that whatever gun he has, it should be one that his wife could pick up and use to come to his rescue with, or perhaps use to defend herself.

The two no-brainer guns that would suit his wife would be a double barrel shotgun and a revolver.

Could he buy a revolver at a Florida gun show?

Seen many cash and carry no ID sales go down at Nevada gun Shows

There is no 'gun show loophole'. The law is the law, regardless of whether or not a transaction takes place at a gun show.

If he IS a resident of Florida, and if he is NOT a prohibited person, he may be able to buy a handgun, legally, in Florida.

Do Snowbirds qualify as residents? I've seen members on here talking about having guns at their winter place in Arizona but maybe they have duel citizenship.

I don't know about Florida but in Texas I was asked for my drivers licence and a recent utility bill for the address on the licence.

" Does the prohibition on the receipt and possession of firearms and ammunition by aliens in nonimmigrant visa status apply to nonimmigrant aliens who lawfully enter the United States without a visa?

No. A nonimmigrant alien who is lawfully admitted to the United States without a visa (e.g. Visa Waiver Program), may acquire or possess a firearm in the United States.

He should get in touch with his nearest ATF Office, DHS and Florida State Patrol for clarification. Despite what you hear, after dealing with the RCMP/CFP, he'll find that they're polite, conscientious and helpful.
