They do not come into your house to check on how you are storing the guns. Sheesh....
Same in Quebec. Member first, restricted second.
In SK (and AB I believe) they ask for a copy of your range membership for your first restricted purchase.
Member first, Law 9, restricted (when they have wasted 2 months of your membership or longer)
Should be 1 law for all Canada and ALL provinces should be made to follow it.
Plus the range told me that if you let your membership expire the CFO will take away your restricted license and confiscate your guns. Reason being, is that you got your restricted for target shooting, and if you don't target shoot you don't need the the firearm.
WTF is that?

Hmmm sounds like the range is trying to ensure you spend your money on a membership?![]()
Well as a dealer in Ontario, I sell numerous handguns per week and ship all over Canada. during the registration I am asked 100 percent of the time what the purpose of the restricted firearm is for. You must belong to a gun club somewhere, or be a bonafide collector who has filled out the deep stack of paperwork for collector status. Approval will not be given if you don't qualify for one of the reasons.

I'm at a loss to understand all of the misconceptions??? This is RESTRICTED. You need to belong to a club, in process of membership or declare yourself a collector.
1st question will be: why? Target or Collecting?.....A: Target. 2nd question: which club?
I have been told that declaring yourself as a collector COULD bring the police around to investigate as to how this "collection" is being stored. The inference is that if you have no constructive reason for owning pistols or the like the Police are more apt to harass you into "compliance"....i.e. guns are not intended for home defence.
I will say it again. I live in ONTARIO and I have purchased 5 handguns in the last 6 months without belonging to a range. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BELONG TO A RANGE TO BUY A HANDGUN IN ONTARIO. The store just puts down that you are a TARGET SHOOTER and the transfer will be approved. I am anxiously waiting for the range to hold their safety course so I can join and get my LTATT to shoot my handguns.
I'm going with this. Sounds like another sticky (pinned?) thread needed; Did you need to join a club to buy your restricteds?"
