Buying from Cabela: is there a catch?

I just got a shiney new LEE 1000 press in today's mail from cabelas. I ordered last week online.

Merchandise Total: $132.99
Shipping and Handling Charges: $13.95
Taxes: $17.29
Fees (Broker): $3.50
Total Amount: $167.73 or $165.07 if you factor in 2% discount with my club cabelas card

The cheapest I have been able to find the equivalent press locally is $215 plus tax or $242.95 total for a savings of $77.88 :D- no driving, no gas spent, no feeling gouged by my local establishments, viva la internet :)

As a conclusion to my original post, i put my order at Cabela's and everything went smoothly.

For less than what i would have spent here for the press, i got the press, a set of dies et 2 reloading books.

Now i need to get components!

Thanks for everybody help!

I love shopping online, Cabelas is great. I find American companies generally have excellent service. I just wish they would ship reloading components (bullets etc.) and scopes from the US.

I would think it could be the price , hate to say it Cabelas is 30%-50% cheeper than canadian retailers
I saved $150 on my charge master combo from the states

X2, main reason.

Why not just drive to www.higginsonpowders.com in Hawskbury, ON. About an hour from Gatineau.

Although, Higginson gave me really good service on every order I have put with them, good communication and fast shipping (not overcharge), but when you are going to spend $150-$200 + and see the price accross the border, it worth a try to save big $$$.

oKay tell me why I can not get Cabelas to ship Lee Turret to me (north of Toronto) ? After trying 3 times last week I was told that will not ship. After reading all the post that say they just order with no problems, I called again and talked to Manager and again he said they will not ship a Lee press and die set to Canada. so what gives?

That sounds wrong. Just order online, should be no problems.

Looking forward to Cabela's opening soon in Canada. Ordered a pair of boots from them yesterday...yeah me, merry Christmas.

Forget that!!! They will be just like Bass Pro or any other American based store, sticker prices on items in Kanadian stores will be just as expensive as any other Kanadian stores not like their US prices :jerkit:

They already do own a store in Canada : SIR Mailorder
This is from an E-mail I got from SIR when inquering about scope prices
SIR is owned by Cabela's, but is still operating as a wholly owned subsidiary of Cabela's. Even if Cabela's in the USA has a lower price on an item, that does not mean that I can price match it

as for dies from cabelas , here is from my E-mail

Order online , the people on the phone do not know what they are talking about . When I first started ordering form them I phoned and right away asked for the "EXPORT DEPT" and that is where you will get your answers. Store manager, till people , clerks, shelf stockers etc... are just that ,They do not have a clue on exports.
Go into canadian tire and ask someone in the automotive dept what kind of ice skates are the best for a novice skater or ask what is the best winter lawn fertalizer or if you can send a case of 12 gauge ammo in the mail ,better yet call the store manager and ask him the same question ................. bet ya a doller you dont get the right answer if one at all ;)

I agree, it hurts to see good quality hard cast 45 bullets going for $50/thousand,titegroup at $16 lb or an EOTech optics $70 cheaper than anything local a two hour drive away:(

Absolutely, I was just in the Winnipeg SIR/Cabelas Kanada the other day, they have the Cabelas meat grinder I just bought online from Cabelas in US for a mere $60 more. For the life of me I have no idea why I would want to pay 25-30% more for the privilige of being Kanadian:(
