Buying new Savage 93 .22 WMR, should I worry?

Whats that worth?

Hey titch~mine IS from a TR, but since the bolt is a 2pc. affair, the business end is the original to my 93FV, the TR/black part is from the parts bin. Make sense? I got it done by a gunsmith in Ontario who does Savage warranty work. PM me if you want his contact info.

I don't like the silly arrangement for the DM, it's finicky to insert it due to the goofy little piece of flat bar that has to guide it. PIA for those of us that use our rifles for more than range plinking, and even then it's an irritant. Second, the accutrigger is a poor example of what a trigger should be.

The savage shoots straight though, I'll give it that, but that's where it ends.

I looked at the Savage before I bought my current 22 WMR, but couldn't get past the ugly!
Ended up with a CZ 455 Varmint with the Laminated stock.
Nice looking, solid construction, and shoots very well, indeed.
Regards, Eagleye.

As said before for the money it is a great deal , I put my 93FV 22WMR in a Boyds Tacticool stock as the original is pretty cheap.
I had an issue with rounds getting jammed when feeding but it was an easy fix. Just had to bend the mounting tab for the magazine forward a bit. This gets the front of the mag to sit higher. Accurate shooting rifle and I like it alot.

I have three CZ's (452/LR American, 453/lR Varmint & 452/HM2 American) and six Savage rimfires (three MKII's in LR/HM2 and three 93's in HMR/WMR)... So I can offer an opinion on both...

The CZ is definitely a better gun from a fit & finish perspective... If you really appreciate nice walnut and rich bluing (who doesn't), then CZ is the way to go. However Savage gets a bum rap IMO, the comments that they feel like "a cheap toy", while subjective, do not reflect my opinion... The "F" series stock does indeed feel cheap... So I got rid of all of mine and they all wear Boyd's stocks now... The mag release is a crappy set-up (but it does work), the mags are flimsy but the CZ mags are no better IMO. Where the Savage rifles more than hold their own is on paper... And when restocked they have a very pleasant "big boy" feel... Comparing my group of bolt-action rimfire's for consistent accuracy... The CZ's rank in the bottom half. My two 93R17's are 2-3 and the 93 WMR is at 5 (middle of the pack). My clear winner for accuracy is a MKII HM2. If I were you I would not buy the new bolt assembly for the 93... If the knob is not working for you, have the handle cut/ground/threaded and put on a custom knob... The price works out to roughly the same, but you don't mess with the headspace and you will have a truly unique (compared to the other range Savage's) gun. JMO.

I get liking CZs more than Savages...I've owned and shot several variations of each, rimfire and centerfire. CZs are fine firearms, Savages (most of them) are "targeting" a different market, namely, people who don't have the money to buy a CZ. They are NOT junk, nor are CZs the finest guns out there. I'll always be a little perplexed as to why CZ owners rattle-on about how much better their guns are when their price reflects the step-up in quality. If you have a CZ budget, get a CZ. If you don't, get a Savage or a Marlin. (or other econo-option)

I have noticed that Savage prices are creeping up and I think this is a bad move for them. Why? Take the "economy" factor away from Savages and I think it makes for a harder argument FOR buying one. Once Savage rimfires get within $100 of CZ's rimfires, I'll never openly endorse buying one over a CZ.

My next rimfire will likely be a CZ, to be honest. The safe is looking a little too Savage-y these days. :)

Ok thanks, Ill keep that in mind.

I was thinking of just getting a bolt knob like hoytcanon is saying.

Some are close to that $100 difference.
