C8 Replica build-plan for review

Update: Recoil pads sourced; furniture decided on new Napa Green Gunkote. Had to resort to Warlord Tactical airsoft via Mil-Spec Solutions in the UK, and the new air-cure Gunkote made for rubber will go on as soon as my gunsmith reopens for business. Also, the top half for my part of the set is in an NFA-compliance specialist's shop for pin-and-weld then that'll be headed to me.

The pair, just waiting for my gunsmith to get the Napa Green.

Just to drop an update, dropped off the furniture at my gunsmith for refinishing today, should have the final "completion" pic in about two weeks. (Well, not true completion but "cosmetic"--final will be when C. finds her way out/down here after the post-Commie Lung AIDS return of sanity, picks her preferred sling mount and hammers the staking to lock it in.

How long have you been a Life Member of the NRA?
I am one , I think just the price of the magazines over the year's has paid for mine

Paid off on the Installment plan early this year.

The Umbrella stuff is distracting. If you are making a clone I'd have to pur this build in the 'try harder' category.

It's there as a personal touch for my girlfriend since this isn't meant to precisely be a "perfect clone" so much as a "near-clone with a little personalization--if I were doing full-on, I'd have called either Atomic Engraving or Braceman. I offered C. the choice between a 100% Umbrella or me getting a "Diema-faux" 80% and machining it myself, and *she* chose the Umbrella.

The final "pre-completion" photos, at least until I figure out how things might need rework for the bayonet and C. gets on a plane to come install her bolt carrier and stake her castle-nut...

This couldn't have happened without a lot of help from a lot of you guys here and a lot of guys over at M4C--and while it'd take a miracle in both your politics and ours, I still fervently hope that someday we'll figure out a way that you guys can get some trigger-time in appreciation of what y'all have helped create.

Not previously noticed, re these photos, I kinda like the symbolism of the two rifles propping each other up, much like your guys and ours in the Rockpile. "International Relations, gunshop version"?

To be honest, I was a little relieved when she chose the UC lower, though I would have tracked down a stripped Colt US had she chosen that option--I'm rather less confident in my machining skills than my assembly ones, and while AR lowers don't grenade like uppers in a catastrophic failure that's a little less weight on my shoulders about her life potentially depending on the quality of my workmanship. (Call me excessive or obsessive, but my QC standard is "if my loved ones had to go to war, would I be comfortable entrusting their lives to this weapon.")
