C8 Replica build-plan for review

Build update: With Washington going Full Metal Retard and requiring registration and lifetime waiver of health-records privacy to buy any semiauto rifle (yeah, I know, welcome to you guys' world... but remember what's a "privilege" for you has been recognized as a fundamental "right" for us down here) starting July 1, until we get that struck down in court the C8 stays a "C8 upper/M4 lower hybrid" for the duration. I'm going to keep tinkering to keep trying to make it a better clone in the interim, but further construction on additional receivers goes on-hold since there's no way I can budget an entire second build in a week and the parts wouldn't all get here in time even if I paid for expedited shipping.

The official "legal completion" portrait, dated today:

Based on this old post:
which Diemaco parts are you looking to match the Magpul to? the Diemaco are all different shades of green

Grip looks like a Foliage Green or Oasis Green, per Powerwagon the handguard is a dead match for FAB Defense OD which their distributor's tech expert calls a dead match for Cerakote Noveske Bazooka Green. So now I'm just looking for a "good enough" match on the stock... still vexing, but it's a big start.

Different lots have different dye lots. So the green will be various shades of green. The trial C7A2 used Armalite furniture.

IIRC, Armalite dropped their green in the early stages of planning this build, a couple years ago. Should I just easy-button with a full set of Noveske Bazooka, or given that "grip lighter than the rest" seems to be a pattern should I really make the effort to replicate that pattern?

If it was purely "just me" and my own collection, I'd call my neighbor "Dan the Cerakote Man" (name changed), tell him "NBG the whole enchilada" and call it a day, but I have three goals here: one, something that'll knock the GF's socks off and also be fit for her to "represent her Home Team" shooting matches with; two, something that you guys who've pitched in info and assistance would be proud to say, "I helped build that;" and three, something that our serving members would be comfortable saying "I'd take that rifle to war" about.

Thanks, LF. Turns out the 1195 doesn't fit the G2X anyway, I'd need a different mount--will take a look at Inforce's line.

Your second photo, is that DBAL on the right, M3X on the left? And are those simple Israeli-style velcro straps holding the tape-switches? (Nothing against simple solutions, I find they frequently work better than overthought and overengineered alternates.)

Then the decision... if I go Inforce, FDE for representing the Rockpile, or green to better fit with the furniture?

Newest issue C7/C8 sling

Any sling you can purchase would be fine.

Commonly purchased slings are
Blue Force Gear VCAS
Viking Tactics
Ferro Concepts Slingster
Magpul

I had a brand new one in package for BMQL, broke within 5 days. Would not recommend, also the metal hardware clangs during handling = recce done.

CSOR runs the VCAS with nylon hardware because the metal was breaking in extreme cold temperatures.

What in the #### is that abortion? How are you supposed to attach it to a C7/C8? Looks like they added bungee to a Magpul MS3.

Haven't been issued that one, fortunately.

How recent is that? I still have the stupid slot on my C8.

So the rear sling attachment point makes sense if you like mounting it to the rear of the receiver, which I don't. But what about the front. Leave it to DND to make a sling that can't be attached to the rifle without being jerry rigged. I mean, we've had C7A2 for what? 15 years now and they're still issuing out the old patrol sling unmodified. I'll be cutting that #### off and jerry rigging it with paracord. Hell, these days I just take the two point and rig it with paracord if I don't have my personal sling with me.

Every single C7 i've seen has had the new sling attachment point in the rear. Even ones with like 1986 serials

They started appearing on the weapons in battalion(within 1CMBG) a few months ago. Apparently 2CMBG started this upgrade last year.

I haven’t personally seen the two other upgrades - modified cocking handle(shorter latch), and new pistol grip; same as the old one, but is slightly more fatter/swelled out so it isn’t as slim.

More like an Ergo than an A2, would you say, or is this something completely new and unique to Canada?
