Cabelas ammo ....

That’s what I also don’t like about the binder as well. Especially anywhere near the city, any dipturd with a lowlife boyfriend/buddy or whatever has it all right there.

Abbotsford cabelas scans your pal. Only bought one gun there.
Here is my experience on my firearm purchase at Cabela's. I asked the outfitter to show me the computer screen. The outfitter did a license status check, came up with my info and showed "valid" under status. Handed my licence back to me.

At the till, instead of manually typing in the firearm license number including after the dot, it's just scanned to save time. The expiry date for some reason has to be typed in manually. I was told that was a check at the till to make sure the outfitter is not selling a firearm on a expired PAL. CYA for the outfitter and the store most likely. That was it.

I much prefer face to face private deals then private out of town. But I'm not so paranoid that I wouldn't purchase another firearm (or reloading equipment ;)) from Cabela's if what I wanted can't be found anywhere else. No legitimate business is going to break the law for customers which is perfectly reasonable.

I do find it a little funny that after you reported the issue to managers (which makes sense), you chose to make a forum thread where you’ve spent a considerable amount of time making multiple posts about how poorly your person information is being handled. All of which would be a completely moot point if you just PERSONALLY took care of your personal information and didn’t throw your retail receipt on the ground. Seems like a pretty easy issue to avoid in the interim.

My thoughts exactly.... Cabelas is not some mom and pop that can just glance at your pal and send you on your way. They are a large corporation that must be above board.

I agree, they are not a mom and pop store so all the more reason to be fully aware of 5he implications of their stupidity.

To those that think this is a waste of time or subject to ridicule, think about this ...... in today's world with curb side delivery, it would be easy for a "wrong" person to buy a firearm.
What is stopping, a wrong person from contacting Miramichi to do a change of address? Last time I moved, all that was needed was a phone call to Miramichi to give them new address.
There is no end to the possibilities for bad when personal info falls into wrong hands.
Have you ever had your credit card info stolen? It has happened to me twice! It sure as hell ain't fun!
To those that feel they need to "throw rocks" at a valid issue ...... I respectfully suggest that you don't waste your "valuable" time or better yet, there is always the ignore feature. I hope that you never get your personal info misused.

My experience, same thing in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. They just verify that the card looks legitimate and check the expiry date and pass it back.

Never had a problem in manitoba either. Never had an issue in Ontario with store except cabelas.

99% of the time i don't take the receipts from any store.

-ammo cant be returned as per the policy
-I have NEVER returned anything at the grocery store or pharmacy in my life
-Canadian tire and Home depot just pull the transaction from the card you use

When they ask if i want my receipt i say no and walk away. How would I know that on that receipt is personal info? The receipt has my credit card acct ###X out so that's not an issue.

Why do i want yet another piece of garbage that will clog up my washing machine when i forget that its in my pocket?
Now who knows if the staff is throwing it out properly, putting it in their pocket or otherwise??
Its not my responsibility to manage something i never asked them to do

Had to dig through my recycling bin. Last week was my first time at Cabelas. Usually I go to Bass Pro. Bass Pro gives a 2% cashback as well as they are old school and record your info in a binder. Cabelas doesn't offer 2% cashback, I asked if my Bass Pro card works so I could collect cashback and they said no, even though they are the same company. Cabelas swipes or scans your PAL which makes it "faster". Low and behold my name and PAL # are on the receipt!

Won't be shopping at Cabelas anytime soon until they offer the 2% cashback.

Can you order ammo online thru basspro? I wish they wld create a canadian website.

Some of the very best and very worst customer service I have experienced has been from small mom & pop outfits to large corporations. In other words, size doesn't matter. In most cases it came down to the employee in front of me. What I don't do is whine about it on a public forum. Take personal responsibility. Take your concerns to management and if you are still unhappy, vote with your wallet and buy elsewhere. If the liberals/NDP/Bloc/Greens get their way, there won't be any ammo & firearm sales in Canada. So some people's "problem" may go away altogether.

Orrrrr, you could pull your condescending head out from the sand or wherever you may have placed it and recognize that one of our group found a potential security flaw and brought to this group!
By the way ..... the security folks called today and we had a lengthy discussion. He too, unlike some people commenting here, saw the problem and they are digging in to it.

Sounds like I stuck a nerve and I'm not sorry if I hurt your feelings, grow up. If you had such a conversation with the "security folks" post the resolution here (good, bad or indifferent) when you receive it, then let it go.
