Not my first choice but good news none the less!!!
Although planning and discussions are in early stages, Cabela's expects to open the Montreal retail showroom as early as late fall 2007 or spring 2008. The large-format retail store, located in the Lac Mirabel mixed-use project, will be developed by Connecticut-based Gordon Holdings Group and Rubin Stahl, and would be Cabela's first store built outside the United States.

Well I sure hope they get a good welcome.

And by the way, we don't have Wholesale Sports or Bass Proshop in Quebec... Could it be a reason why they'd try to open a Cabela's here?

Well they should open a Bass Pro everywhere as well. If I had lots of extra money, I would open one per province

Quebec has LeBarons which is about the same as Wholesale, it should have went out west like, say in Edmonton so I could drive to it.:D

I am fine with Montreal, but I am in Ottawa at the moment. I think it has to do with the stupid Lebarons shops out here.

Actually montreal has alot of hunters, in other words benelli/tikka snobs. Go to SAIL and you will see that these things (hunting/gun crap) are starting to grow.

For shipping purposes (in & out), Monteal is better located than the western options. Being a large mail order retailer, I'm sure this would have been a consideration.

Also, I'd bet Montreal real estate is cheeper that of Toronto/Calgary/Edmonton/Vancouver.

I guess Cabelas mail order business ship a lot of stuff to the Montreal region. Makes business sense to open a store there.

It is near Mirabel, near the famous Trudeau's white elephant, Mirabel International airport. You don't have to drive into Montreal at all. Good for people in Ottawa too. I will be making that two hour drive through farm country to get there for sure.

Also, an eastern location for Cabelas will give them an opportunity to beat LL Bean to eastern Canada, who is rumoured to be coming to Moncton NB.
