Cabelas is coming to Canada

Actually, the site they plan on building it at is the future site of the worlds biggest mall. That's right, it is supposedly going to be bigger than the one in Edmonton.

However, as we saw with BassPro, the big American chains never acheive the grandeur of the stores south of the border. Walking into a Cabalas/BassPro in the US is truly an experience... unlike the one in TO.

And with all due respect to you guys who are putting down Montreal... it's about time we had a real contender in the outdoor market here. LeBaron is horrible, both in service and products wise. I hope this puts the final nail in their coffin.

we are all just jealous we want it in our own backyard man so we can go there all the time and be in a happy place for gun owners and outdoorsman. i have found that bass pro's prices on things are no roaring hell i can get pretty much the same deal from my local guy and i like supporting him i know him and his kids and his wife and i rather see the money spent in my neck of the woods than go to some giant conglomerate. how does everybody else feel.

Cabela's stores are huge -10 times the size of the average lebaron's outlets. they sell stuff in their stores which is not in their catalog as well.

I'm sure they also think north american/NAFTA, so they porbably considered the local US market as well. lots of hunters in Vermont/upstate New York

one benefit is you should be able to get gun stuff which you can't right now because they have elected not to go through the us export hassles. in addition buy importing thier goods from china- the case with a lot of their hunting clothing, there should be duty savings. I order hunting gear from them since a lot of the stuff they carry, like scentlock/goretex/thinsulate/low noise all-in-one suits can't be found anywhere else, and you wind up paying duty in addition to PST & GST.

It's annoying to pay extra sales tax if you're a visiting Albertan but probably rebate schemes will be available and it should help their mail and internet order distribution as well.

Aklthough I haven't visited Montreal in years (only drive through occasionally on my way to somewhere else) this is something I'd make a trip for 9although i'm not sure my credit card could stand it:D :D )

It would be great if they offered Canadian Mail-Order...but if they aren't going to carry firearms, ammo, reloading stuff...what's the point? Might as well order from Wholesale or LeBarons or Russell's and pay one shipping charge!

i don't see why they wouldn't carry firearms ammo etc. In the US the only firearms they sell in their catalog are black powder which can be mail ordered in the US. ( the US stores do carry non blackpowder guns i'm told but they can't mail them out) Canada's laws are actually easier you can mail order all types of firerarms. they could sell ammo in Canada as well from a canadian store- they do sell ammo in the US to US locations but have chosen not to export because of the export law hassles.

I may be wrong but I see them offering everything that Wholesale, Lebaron's etc offer.

One of the big reasons why I think they chose Montreal is that Quebec is leading the nation in terms of # of hunters per province.

I am anxious to see if the store is completely bilingual or not.

For those on the West coast they are opening a store in Lacey, WA, near Seattle.

Really? I don't see anything on thier website about that. I wouldn't mind a 3 hour drive just to look in one of thier stores.

One good thing about Cabellas coming to Canada is that it will raise the customer service bar for the other mail-order retailers, esp Le-Baron.

The same thing happened when Wal-Mart showed up. For the most part, the Americans are very good at customer service.
