Cabela's no longer lists SKS's on line

They did sell out on Black Friday, a lot of the latest batch they got before hand were in rough shape. Some had raw laminate stocks, rusted parts and were missing a lot of the extras they normally come with. My hopes are future batches are more like the ones WSS got a couple years back. Those were nice.

A buddy of mine works at Wolverine, he tells me that the store cost for an SKS ranges from $80.00 to $120.00, so selling a $200.00 they are still making a good margin on the SKS.

At a cost of $120 and sell at $200, that's 40% margins, very acceptable margins. Using the mentioned Cabelas example of selling out 500 units @$189 and a 40% margin, that's a $37,800 profit in one day.... That's pretty attractive.

New stock is coming in at a price that nobody will pay - yet (maybe never).

I took one with BBQ paint in trade about a year ago @ $150 less $40 of non-corrosive x39. $110 sounds about right for that grade. ~$250 is insane.

I'm sure people said the same when prices on Enfield's rose and rose, so don't be surprised when a Russian refurb is double what it is now. It will happen at some point, I have no doubt in that.

Indeed indeed ,look at the Swiss K-31.I bought one on sale at WSS about 2 years ago for something like $ 299, it was in great shape....very very good shape !

I also bought a crate of GP11 ammo on sale at the same time.

Look at the Chinese 56s....bought mine for around $ 150 and then up in price to $175....bought several back then (2008 ish)

If you want a Russian, get them now at the $ 200-220 price point while you can.I have 4 assorted and plan on buying 1 or 2 more.

I was told places are having a hard time getting them ( wholesale sports manager told me that ).... I hear the same about 54R... I think the supply is there but the political situation is making it difficult.

Went to Abbotsford Cabelas today to grab some surplus and no SKS. Asked an associate, shook his head and said no and didn't think they'd be back.

Well, I ordered 2 SKS on Black Friday. Only one is confirmed shipped coming this Friday!

It took 2 week for them to get their act together and ship out 1 rifle, and I have no word on if they are going to honor the purchase of 2 I made online.

There was like 70 still available online at the time I ordered 2 SKS's but I talked to Cabela's yesterday and they said they do not think there was stock enough to honor my order!

Wow....not a very good first time experience with Cabela's.

I just purchased a pair of 10x42 vortex diamondback binoculars from cabelas on clearence. They were clearing out the 2015 model for $200. I got an order confirmation but no shipping confirmation. Turns out they over sold and dropped the ball.

When i contacted them they apologized and said they would come up with a solution and call me back. They called the next day and offered to sell me the new model for the same price. They were also on back order so i had to wait for a couple weeks but in the end I got an even better deal on a great product. They didnt charge my credit card until they actually shipped something.

Mistakes happen, especially when computers are involved, but they were very professional about it and I will be ordering from them again in the future

Bought an sks like 8 months ago from cabelas , and they gave me a ####ing refurb , bbq paint , no matching number , i am still pised about it since i like the sks and wanted a clean one with matching numbers and the blueing :(

Its unfortunate that you didn't get what you were hoping for when buying online. I have bought several rifles online from reputable sellers that put detailed pictures up of the rifles I was interested in. This is the only real way you can semi-confirm quality before actually having the rifle in your hands. I wrote a review on Cabela's website and here stating that visual inspection is a must. I bought 1 SKS from them in the Summer (idea being to gift to friend for invite and share offer to hunt camp, but im greedy and kept it). I looked at 12 SKS rifles (everything in store) and bought the 12th rifle they showed me which was the only acceptable rifle to me. The rest had loose fitting wood or metal parts, signifigant rust or wear, or had been touched up so much they must have been hiding something. I took off the cover and checked the gas port to be sure all parts were present, my rifle was full of cosmoline which I preferred. Some of the rifles were clean as a whistle of cosmoline but had exterior rust around the fitted ends which to me was just a poor rifle put away wet from a careless handler. I took home a Tula 52 laminate matching except magazine nice looking rifle, just took time to pick it out.

The rifle I did get has tiny rust marks which were easily fixed up when I got it home and cleaned her up. Now my Cabela's SKS sits clean/oiled and unfired by me. I will get around to shooting it one day and see it as the rifle my daughter can learn to shoot semi-center fire on down the road or as fast cash or gift to someone who appriciates it. Buying guns is much like buying horses or cars they may look nice in the picture but until you get a hand on them yourself everything is just words and promises with no obligation once cash is exchanged.

Just an update,

Received an email from Cabelas,

More SKS rifles are expected in the next couple months.
"Should be ready to buy again by spring"

It's a two hundred dollar gun. They are all mass produced they made millions of them they are all shlt. Shoot it and throw it away when you are done with it

I bought an SKS from Cabelas. It's a BBQ paint ugly looking thing but oddly enough it's my favourite of everything I own. Every time I go out shooting it gets shoot the most and as always the biggest #### eating grin on my face.

Hmmmmm,that makes sense !

How many semi autos can you buy for 200-260 bucks ,that shoot cheap ammo ,reliable ,though as a $2 steak and field strip in seconds......not too many I bet.And yah...I know they are not sub MOA rifles ,but we all know that.

Any way........Cabelas still has them in Winnipeg (laminates) although I`m not sure how the pickings are.I bought one in early March and had it hand picked by the counter guy ,very nice shape, nicely blued and no rust anywhere.Of course they are $259 ,but whatever ,still cheap for a semi.

If I ever see blued versions in very good condition for $200 bucks ,I`ll snap `em up !
