A clean rifle, pre-1952!! with all matching numbers and a cleanly pinned magazine for $249 is a reason to avoid Cabela's??
Okie Dokie.
I like them just fine. Sorry you guys out West seem to "claim" you get such crappy stock and service. Mine is just fine, and the stock I have physically handled and BOUGHT is exceptional. So perhaps your "claims" are complete BS?
The very first shipment when Cabelas in Barrie first opened were awesome. A good chunk of them were all blued, but of mags were mis-matched.
There is a lot of Izhevsk's in Cabela's newest batches. At the Barrie location, of the ones we've gotten in stock, at least 1 per batch (batch being generally 5-10).
The description is definitely off. It was originally advertised as "unissued". But that was resolved ASAP. However, the rest of the ad is in dire need of a re-write as well. We had a member of the staff ordered one in for ####s and giggles while advertised as "unissued", and low and behold he got a Izhevsk 1954, all matching - but refurbed. Still a good deal at $250 IMO, but so much for description of "1945-1952" years.
There are also many letter series ones in the plain-jane laminate SKS on our shelves currently, which blow the 1952 date out of the water as well.

I checked the link again and it says "Unissued since refurbishment". So, typical SKS refurbs, overpriced like every firearm at Cabelas.
"Re-furb" is not the issue here since there really is no such thing as "mint/unissued" anymore if there was ever really even such a thing. They are 65 years old and have been handled and re-handled several times over the decades.
I have been very happy with Cabelas before as they had pretty clean examples from early years production. Thats why I bought there. Fir whatever reason, when I happened to be looking months ago, they had 1950's and 51's whereas everyone else near me had 53's, 54's and 55's and still do. I can get those all day long for $179 or $189.
If these do NOT turn out to be 1952's or earlier, than the ad is a misrepresentation. It could very well be an "honest" mistake, but it wouldn't matter to me as Im only interested in pre-1953 SKS. I would never pay $249 for a 1953 or later gun. I already know where I can get those elsewhere for less.
my friend was in today, asked too see or be directed too the supergrade sks, they showed him a couple of the most beat up refurbs ever,so much for that.
A bunch of unrefurbished rifles came in the last import from the Ukraine, Lever and Westrifle had 'em.
The year of an SKS has basically no bearing on price other than 1949 and early 1950 examples.
