The calendar has rolled over to the New Year and that can only mean one thing... the submissions for entries for Cabin Fever Challenge 2024 is now open. For those who haven't seen it or heard of it before, I'll try to provide a quick summary
What is Cabin Fever Challenge?
Cabin Fever Challenge (CFC) is an example of a "Postal Competition" where entrants video themselves and submit their entries virtually. The word competition is used loosely as you are truly competing against yourself to see what you are capable of and it is just for fun
Who can enter? What does it cost?
Anyone who can safely handle and shoot firearms. The competition is run by volunteers and is 100% free to enter. All you need is a way to host a video to send in for submission (free video hosting can be done through YouTube, Rumble, Google Drive, etc)
What type of gun can I use?
There are six different categories to try to make it as accessible to as many people as possible
Division 1 - Vintage Semi-Auto is any type of "as issued" semi-auto designed prior to 1958 (SKS, M1 Garand, M1 Carbine, AG42, etc)
Division 2 - Modern Semi-Auto/Unlimited is everything else that doesn't fall in the vintage category (AR180 platforms, Tavors, T97, KelTec, or any vintage gun not in it's 'as issued' state by way of new stock, rails, pistol grips, etc)
Division 3 - Manually Operated is anything bolt action, pump action, lever action
Division 4 - Single Shots include break action, falling block, rolling block, etc
Division 5 - Muzzleloaders is fairly self-explanatory
Division 6 - 22 Rimfire of any make/model/action
What am I shooting at and at what range?
Division 1-4 shoot at an 8" circle at 100 meters
Division 5 shoots at an 8" circle at 50 meters
Division 6 shoots at a 4" circle at 50 meters
Targets can be downloaded and printed free from h ttps://www.riflechair.com/cabin-fever-challenge
What is the course of fire? How much ammo do I need?
Divisions 1-4 and 6 are all 20 rounds total. In this order the shooter fires 5 rounds from standing (reloads), 5 rounds from kneeling (reloads), 5 rounds from prone (reloads), then 5 rounds from sitting.
Division 5 (muzzleloader) is only 1 round from each position
How does scoring work?
Scoring is done the same for all categories. It is {[Number of hits on target x 5] divided by [Time in seconds]} multiplied by 100
How do I submit my video and score?
There is a link on h ttps://www.riflechair.com/cabin-fever-challenge to submit scores. Or you can e-mail your submission to [cfcdivisions @ gmail . com]
When is the competition open?
CFC runs from January 1st to March 31st each year
I don't know how to video edit, how can I do this?
While some entrants make pretty elaborate videos (CGN's own Murray3d comes to mind as does mustachioed YouTube celebrity BritishMuzzleloaders), all you really need to do is lean your phone on something to record you shooting the course of fire then walking to the target to count hits
Is there a detailed explainer video I can watch while drinking my morning coffee?
Glad you asked! Absolutely. I'll even put it in the thread here so you don't even have to leave GunNutz to watch it!
What if I still have questions?
Post them here and I will do my best to answer them or direct you to where you can get the answers
I encourage everyone to get out and try this competition. It is a great excuse to get to the range and practice some shooting fundamentals at the time of year many of us hibernate
