Cabin fever

Does anyone go to the range in the winter?

Yep, all winter as long as you don't mind shooting with rain gear on.
We do get snow and cold out here but usually not for very long.
Sometimes the dampness/humidity can feel nearly as cold as below zero in other places.
As much as I dislike rain, it doen't need to be shovelled....

I enjoy the quieter times at the range as well. We have a pretty active membership here, so you will find other brave souls out there. Not anything like a sunny sunday in May or anything.

It's a pretty nice feeling driving out to the range, everything covered in show, the mountains as a backdrop, and it's just you and your rifle. No asking "clear to change targets?". I almost prefer winter range time.

I do sometimes, it's nice because usually I have the place to myself. Coyote hunting, ice fishing, sometimes even fly fishing if it's warm enough, and skiing help cure my cabin fever over the winter.

i go to the range in the winter here .its actually nice when the sun is out and its just above freezing .

In regina it gets to -45 typically, I do shoot, but I dress in a snow suit along with a ski mask and snow goggles, I end up looking like a russian cold climate SWAT member, but who cares, I'm almost always alone out there anyway, but thats the best part.

We shoot all winter up here, both inside and outside. Even develop loads and use our chronographs outside. Keep the batteries warm between strings in a shirt pocket. :)

Quite amazing to see how little difference there is in actual performance at -30C. Difference in drop at 300 meters for a 180 gr 300 Win Mag summer load at 3000 fps is less than an inch!

This is Canadiangunnutz! A better question might be "do you NOT shoot in the winter?"
Like a lot of guys, I like the quicker barrel cooling in winter. Plus I now live down in the Tropic of Ottawa, so it seldom gets cold anyway.
