Calibre opinion

Sell all three and buy another matching Sako in .243... run the .243 with 85 grain TTSX for everything from coyotes to deer, run the .308 with a 165 or 180 grain bonded bullet for bear, moose, elk.

Update, sold the 30-06 and the 300wm

bought tikka stainless laminate 243 and a vx3i CDS for the sako.

now to sell the vanguard and I’m done. (For now)

In my opinion, the finest all-round caliber for most Canadian Game is the .270 Winchester. I have shot elk, moose, three types of deer, antelope, and bear with my .270 Steyr Mannlicher Luxus with claw mounted Zeiss 2.5-10 X 56 detachable scope. 130 grain Hornady BTSP for smaller animals and 150 grain Nosler Partition for the big ones. Accurate and deadly.

Why sell any of them? All 3, .308, .30/06, and .300 Winchester fall within the same "suitable for" range. The .300 is arguably the most versatile and the .308 the least, but the .300 is the most difficult to shoot well and the .308 the easiest. If it were me, the .308 would be a short light 20" carbine, the .30/06 would be a 24" standard weight rifle, and the .300 would have a 26" barrel, probably with a 1:8 twist to get the long 230 gr VLDs through the transonic range, and it would wear a suitable high powered optic for long range applications. At least then the .308 and the .300 would have their niche, while the .30/06 could handle all chores under all conditions, they way God intended it to be.
