I had to call the CFC this morning to register a firearm that "fell through the cracks". I got it as a receiver and wanted to wait to get it barreled before doing the registration.

Anyways ..... the lady was very helpful [and pleasant] at getting this done. After the business part of the conversation I asked her about her job and how it was to deal with the gun owners in Canada. Phone type, call center work is not the easiest and can be very challenging dealing with clients all day long on the phone. She replied that "Canadian gun owners were the best people on the planet". [direct quote]

This lady has a good job in a town where jobs are few and far between. While she doesn't support the registry, she does say that she loves her work and the people she deals with are the reason for that.

Give yourselves a pat on the back for being a great representative to Joe Public in this country. :)

Bulls***...

She supports the registry in that it's the reason she gets to put food on her table. Screw with someones livelyhood and see their "principles" fly out the window.

Thats good to hear. The better we are to these people the better they will be to us. Thats just natural and the way the world should be.

Nice to hear a confirmation of what we know though isn't it. :)

Not BS, sped.

Maybe you should move there and try to live on your principals. There are many folk in this country that do work in jobs that they may not like in order to keep food on the table. I've done it. What would you suggest, going on EI?

As far as customer service goes, there are a lot of gun shops and mail-order warehouses that could take a lesson from them. I'd rather talk to some of the ladies at the CFC than try and talk to someone at LeBaron.

Paul , I'm certain you're already aware of this, but you get what you give, when dealing with people.I have to shake my head when people scream at service staff, and then complain that THEY are being treated rudely.

Very true. I've spent much time on both sides of the customer service position.

How could anyone get angry with the girls at CFC?

Have never even had one come close to being rude or snippity with me and I can be hard to deal with at times!!!!

They're complicit in the odious scheme of firearms registration.

Aiding their master in the theft your property, but with a smile and a "have a nice day"

I have dealt with them on numerous occassions....... good attitudes, always polite, and patient, well informed on the rules and regs, nice people working there.

Most of my experiences with them have been excellent. The only time I've had issues are trying to register wildcats. If you really want to confuse the system, tell them you have a:

You: "I have an (insert wildcat calibre here) built on a Mauser action"
CFC: "So it's a Mauser?"
You: Yes
CFC: We don't have that calibre listed, sir
Y: It's a wildcat.
CFC: So it's a sporter?
Y: Um, sure?
CFC: So it's not a Mauser?
Y: It's built using a k98 mauser action.
CFC: So it's a k98?
Y: No, it has that action.
CFC: What calibre is it again?
Y: (insert wildcat here)
CFC: Well no k98 has that calibre.
Y: Well it's not a Mauser. It's built on a mauser action. It's a wildcat, and that calibre is what's stamped on the barrel
CFC: So it's not a Mauser? It's a "Wildcat"?
Y: No, it's built on a Mauser.
CFC: We have no mauser k98 with that calibre in the system, sir
Y: ...

It was a very entertaining conversation. But I find as long as you are patient, usually the ladies are helpful and polite.

Actually the rifle I registered was a 375 Chatfield Taylor. You may have heard of it. ;)

The CFC rep didn't have it on file so contacted a gun tech [while I was still on the phone] and got an alternative name for it. The 375CT was found in a sub file. She took all the info over the phone w/o having to get involved with a verifier.

SuperCub, that is crazy! I HAVE in fact heard of that rifle before. What a small world.

I should have given you the heads-up and maybe mentioned something about how mine is in the system as a "375 Taylor". Might have saved you a bit of a headache. Although from the sounds of it, you seemed to have made out better than I did :D

Move. Find a job that doesn't pit you against your fellow citizens...
Whatever  Most folks that suggest that live in a prosperous area and hold a job that pays well not having to deal with much reality. People don't get to choose were they are from and moving to another town or province isn't an easy thing to do.

Why don't you move to Miramichi and start from scratch living on your lofty principals? I been, and worked there many times. The biggest employer [UPM] has shut down and the town is in hard times. I'm pretty sure that most anyone in that town would be glad for a good paying job at the CFC and being in a rural type setting there wouldn't be much support at all for the gun registry other than the jobs it would provide.

So ....... based on what you say would you quit a good paying job in an auto factory given the fact that the product you provide causes green house gas and provides much needed global warning? I'm pretty sure there aren't many people that agree that CO2 emissions are a good thing, but I don't see many of them quitting to go work in a bicycle factory.
