can shoot both sides but i prefer let handed action as im also left eye dominant ... everything is backward ...
As long as the bullet doesn't enter from the wrong side, it's all good.

When they released the RSM, the 404 Jeff was in the lineup.... At the time, federal was supposed to release a factory 404 load to support the rifle..... When the ammo never went to production Ruger decided to pull the 404 from the lineup, but not before an estimated 100 - 150 rifles were sent out and sold.....
They are out there, but rarer than hens teeth.....
I thought Id add some pics of some of my Rugers.
A family portrait of RSM's
I also like the Ruger 77 Mark2's but the 77 African Hawkeyes have a better LC6 trigger and are available from the factory in 375 or 416 Ruger. These are real great rifles, but maybe not as fancy as their predecessors.

Buckmastr, nice trio you have there for sure... If you get a chance, could I get a measurement of the distance from the outside of one scope ring to the outside of the other?..... I want go measure it against a couple of scopes I have to see if they will fit in the extended magnum action.....
Brad, I will measure for you when I get home this afternoon... remember that mounting distance is one thing, but you may have to shift rearward to make the eye relief work... so you may need a very long tube or the offset ring... I was able to make a VX-3 1.5-5X20 work with a 4BO in the front position and a regular 5B in the rear.
I will mount a couple different scopes and ring set-ups and post pictures.
Thanks superbrad.
That scope won't go on there without some offset rings. I personally would jump up to a 3.5-10x40, which would mount with the rings supplied, before I went with a straight tube 1.5-5 or messed with offset rings.
I get 5 7/16" outside to outside ring's on the 375 H&H.
It had VXIII 1.5X5x20 on it when I bought it!
I had a Leupold VX-3 1.75-6X32 with German #4 on this one... just barely fit for good eye relief.

With the integral rib, you have to go up one size for objective clearance... that is the attraction of a straight tube scope on these... it allows lower mounting. When I get home I will mount a VX-3 1.5-5, VX-3 2.5-8 and VX-3 3.5-10 and take pictures of the mount set-ups that work.

Now that's detail!.... I measured the tube on my Zeiss and it is right on 6"..... So that gives me a little over half an inch of play with regular....
So it looks like the 4BO on the rear and 3B on the front would really screw proper eye relief..... No two people are built the same but the fact that you needed to move it backwards likely means I would be screwed if I moved it forwards......
Looks like I will have to try either 4BO forward and 5B on the rear of get a regular setup and take my chances?
With 6" of tube for mounting, I think a regular 4B/5B or possibly 3B/4B will work fine with a 32mm objective. Zeiss have a slightly wider bell than Leupold for the same glass.
Yes they do..... And the shoulders on the bells are steaper in angle grade, which frees up more tube..... Now I just have to find a dealer that has both the 3B and 4B in stock....... Or go with non Ruger rings..... Or get a full QD base setup and take that route....
Thanks for the pics and write up... To be honest, other than the scout, which has the full length pic rail on it, I always just take the rings out of the box and mount them.... I find the Ruger rings are excellent considering they come free with the rifle.....
