I have a new coach gun and it appears that the muzzle of one barrel has been deformed. I've taken some measurements with a caliper to confirm, and it's a visible oval. I may post photos later, but this is a general feeler. How dangerous is it to shoot a gun in this condition and if it isn't a colossal hazard, how badly will it affect the pattern? Can it be repaired?

One muzzle is .720 both ways and the other is .704 and .738 horizontally and vertically.

It's probably not dangerous, but if you want to save it then don't shoot the thing. Can probably be repaired...waiting for pics.

Good news so far. Here she is...

From the hideous rib in the middle you've probably guessed that it's a Norc :p

I'm no gunsmith, but I think a marlin spike or something similar with a long gradual taper could be tapped inside to make it round again. I have done this on soft rings before to make them round again.

how short is it? maybe you can cutt off just as much that is bent?

From what I understand with doubles you run the risk or messing things up when you cut them down. The barrels are regulated to shoot in the same spot. When you cut them down you can lose that. Also you may have to fill in the void in the end between the barrels.

It's only 12" as it is, so cutting it is..well, you get the idea. I wouldn't be afraid to shoot it as it is, I was mostly wondering what might happen if I were to put a slug through that barrel.

From what you guys are saying it sounds like it can be repaired then, which is good to hear... I'll wait to see what the seller has to say before I decide what to do with it. Thanks guys!
