There seem to be a lot of opinions on what to use, but I use Hoppe's 9 on my rifles, is this OK for my pistols (CZ 75 in 9mm & S&W 1911 in 45acp) or do these need special care?
Thanks for your help.
Hoppe's 9 is not a lubricant! It's for removing powder fouling. You need to use an oil and maybe even grease (depending upon the pistol) after applying the #9 as well.

I prefer to use products less harmful to me and the environment. If a water displacement product and motor oil works for you......is that the funny part?So funny. I have owned some of my firearms for up to 40 years and I use wd40 and Canadian tire, engine storage spray and even some Mobil 1, 5 W 30 mixed in. Always go bang and NEVER any rust on my guns(until I let someone borrow one). Engines run at hundreds of degrees for hours on end and last for years on 10w30...
Yikes! What is that?

As stated, Hoppe's #9 is a solvent. Use it sparingly and don't let it sit overnight! Chatted with a fella that did that. Figured it would give his bore a good cleaning. Not! This stuff will burn into your metal.
