There seem to be a lot of opinions on what to use, but I use Hoppe's 9 on my rifles, is this OK for my pistols (CZ 75 in 9mm & S&W 1911 in 45acp) or do these need special care?
Thanks for your help.

Hoppe's 9 is not a lubricant! It's for removing powder fouling. You need to use an oil and maybe even grease (depending upon the pistol) after applying the #9 as well.

So funny. I have owned some of my firearms for up to 40 years and I use wd40 and Canadian tire, engine storage spray and even some Mobil 1, 5 W 30 mixed in. Always go bang and NEVER any rust on my guns(until I let someone borrow one). Engines run at hundreds of degrees for hours on end and last for years on 10w30...

I prefer to use products less harmful to me and the environment. If a water displacement product and motor oil works for you......is that the funny part?

Or you could not clean at all...

I use G96 and patches or bore snake for routine cleaning/lube. Once and awhile I will "deep clean" with solvent and bore brushes and then patches followed by oil.

As stated, Hoppe's #9 is a solvent. Use it sparingly and don't let it sit overnight! Chatted with a fella that did that. Figured it would give his bore a good cleaning. Not! This stuff will burn into your metal.
Choose a lubricant suitable to your shooting environment, which may change throughout the year (hot, dry, cold, wet). There hasn't been anything really new in terms of the actual ingredients that go into each product in quite some time. Just different recipes for each specific snake oil:) Also, look for something that is NOT chlorinated. Chlorinated lubricants tend to be hard on metals.
Personally I am switching over to Lubriplate brand of lubricants. They are industrial grade lubricants that perform very well in all sorts of conditions offering excellent lubrication and moisture protection.

Bull$hit. I believe he told you that story when you two chatted but he was lying, lol.

Clean with #9, until patches are clean, grease rails with Lubriplate 105, run a patch through the barrel with Remoil, and then run same patch over outside surface of pistol. Run a a dry patch through the barrel if you like.
I've started using just CLP and Remoil the last few years, and it works great as well.

I use G-96 Military Grade bore solvent and Q-tips/cleaning kit to clean and then I use M-Pro 7 Gun Oil and Q-tips
to lube them up, I don't gob oil on my guns I like to smear the oil on where needed.
