Can you hunt Coyote with a shotgun in ont

There is a province or two that allow more than three when loaded with slugs, possibly buckshot as well, but not sure about that. BC is one, maybe Alberta as well. The Migratory Game Bird Treaty is a Federal treaty, as you say, but the administration of at least that part of it dealing with shotgun capacities when hunting migratory game birds is left to the provinces. Ontario and others have decided that it's just easier and leaves less wiggle room for poachers to squeeze through to limit all shotguns, for all hunting to three rounds combined

You may very well be right. I had checked with a few jurisdictions a while back, and they all had 3 shells in the shotgun while hunting specified. I have a Savage 20 gauge bolt gun with rifled barrel, and the detachable mag only holds 2 shells. I have not seen any larger mags offered for it (although I haven't really looked), so I imagine the 3 shot rule must apply pretty well all over, otherwise, you'd think they would supply larger mags and a plug.

I stand corrected. Guess this was updated recently. Or maybe I just misread it all these years. Where this gets confusing is they allow 5 rounds for centrefire rifle hunting moose/deer etc. Under deer/moose regulations says you're allowed to use shotguns, no cap....I will dive into this a bit more.

You can have as many rounds as you want for centerfire rifle for hunting, the only restriction is the 5 round magazine capacity for semi automatics but that is a federal firearms law.

You can use a 10rd magazine, 14rd magazine, 20rd magazine for hunting with a centerfire in Ontario, as long as they are not semi automatics.

5 rounds centerfire would mean a plug in a model 94 30-30. Thats silly.

you can have more than 5 in a lever action. 5 is simply the restriction for semi-autos with respect to center fire. lever, pump, bolt can all have 5+

coyote wise, i use 00 buck and limit my shots to 40yds based on my pattern with my modified choke.

If it takes a pistol mag you can have 10 round mags in a center fire rifle

Also in Ontario during open big game seasons there is a restriction on shot size you can carry if you aren't hunting the current big game at the same time
I don't know about other provinces though

Um No, this is so wrong. Those are migratory game regulations. People should seriously not open their mouths unless they know their regs. Semis are limited to 5, pumps as many as the mag will hold for coyotes.

Shotgun must be plugged for all hunting in ontario

Shotguns are still capped at 3 rounds even when slug hunting big game

"Semi-automatic"

I stand by what I said about pumps, and about speaking about things you don't understand...

What part of repeating firearms ...as in shotguns are you confused about?
The guy quoted the Regs for 2017 and even professed to have spoken with CO's.
I have no dog in this...not to mention I'm in BC where our game laws are more Liberal.
Dam, I just puked a little in my mouth when I typed Liberal...dam I did it again.
Tastes gross.

I love it when hunters don't know what the #### they are talking about. It makes me feel warm inside to think of how much stupid there is in our community.

LMFAO...what a great thread.

I suppose you've been hunting with more than 3 shells in the tube this whole time and have been lucky thus far with not encountering a conservation officer? The conservation officer will check if your pump is capable of holding more than 2 in the tube whether you're after waterfowl, coyotes, or deer. Nothing new, been this way for a long time.

We get checked almost every other year in the controlled deer hunt. Thy have a rubber tube thy can slid in the tube of the shotgun to check for a plug.

Ya my shotgun is 3.5 inch but I shoot 2.75 inch slugs ..got to be carefully cutting the plug to get it just right.
