I love the show... I ahve heard "complaints" about the Cariboo thing and the Eider Duck hunt... but we only see the highlights on TV.

Who knows? maybe Thomas had been practising a runing shot for moths before the taping. The Cariboo looked very close and if it looks close on tape then it was really close in reality. Maybe he felt very confident in his shot.
Whatever
Don't get me wrong, it is a great show. A great Canadian show that doesn't contain all the 'glitz & glamour' of a staged Hollywood production. That's one of the appeals for me, the realism and that all aspects of the hunt don't go perfectly. My only criticism was the serious error in judgement that someone of his experience displayed in taking the shots he took and then airing it on public accessable medium like T.V. From what I saw and with my limited experience, the shots were questionable at best so I would think that to him, that fact should've been blatantly obvious. As I've mentioned, it is the only 'fault' I've observed that I had issue with. Public sentiment isn't exactly in favour of hunting so it's in our best interest not to give them ammunition for criticism. Subsequent episodes and those previous I've thoroughly enjoyed. I have the 'Best of The First Year' as well as a few individual ones and next is to get the best of year II.

We caught the series last summer and thoroughly enjoyed it. I especially like the bit where the guy cooks whats been bagged!
Miss the prog and the website isnt the same. I have considered buying the DVDs but nothing more. Its so good to see the wildlife shown well after all the tax dollars spent on the great outdoors eh?
"She may not find you handsome but she sure should find you handy!"

the only real critisim of the show that i have is its rotten time slot here in MB. usually at 0730 in the morning. Other than that it is great to see a show that is based in Canada with real hunts. I think my favorite episode is where he went moose hunting in northern MB. Huge bull, no real shot with the bow.

The best part is if i miss the episode the kids tell me what happened (7&4) when i come home for lunch.

In B.C., here on the Vancouver Island, 7:30AM Sunday morning on cable. I don't mind the time slot. It's a good way to 'wake up' Sunday morning, having a coffee and watching Canada In The Rough. It would be handy if it was also aired later, say in the afternoon, just incase the morning showing was missed.

yah,too bad it is only aired once-if you miss it-too bad. With hunting in serious decline[according to the number of licences sold] -perhaps outdoor family shows like this will help change peoples perceptions.I sure enjoy my annual hunting trip with my boy-cooking, sitting around the fire, talking, reading, potting a few grouse, calling moose-and actually getting one to come in[unfortionately no immature bulls came]and to be able to enjoy a Canadian outdoor show is just welcome entertainment

6:30 am here... but I can watch last weeks show at 11:30, problem is on a Sunday I am usually sleeping at 6:30 and by 11:30 I have left the house.

We used it as the wake up tv in the hotel over in Ontario, my wife was very keen to see the pheasant shooting and gun dogs!

I guess we're spoiled here in Newfoundland, since with the time difference, we have 5-6 chances to watch it on StarChoice, starting with the morning coffee, and taking us right up to lunch time. No problem sleeping in and still catching it!:)

I like the show, but since its Canada in the Rough, I'd like to see them actually visit all 10 provinces and 3 territories. Furthest east I've seen them was the NB bear hunting episode. I like waterfowl hunting, but I was getting a little tired of snow goose hunting in Quebec multiple times. I think it'd be interesting to see Thomas and crew hunting Woodland Caribou here on the Rock, or do a Newfoundland Grand Slam of Black Bear, Woodland Caribou & Moose...or maybe seaduck hunting & turr hunting in Conception Bay?

Sorry Big Redd, still think the Eider Hunting episode showed at the very least bad judgment for the conditions they hunted and all birds shot were not displayed (maybe the guides fault:confused: ). The other episodes I've seen were fine though. I think the problem is that when you are doing a show trying to cover all the bases of hunting in Canada you are going to hit a few situations where the experience is not up to par.

I like the program, except for a brief comment made about one of my favorite cartridges last week, the .30 WCF. He said the 30-30 isn't powerful enough for him to use on deer. I'd have no issues carrying mine for moose, and even carry it when fishing and hiking in Grizz's back yard.

To be fair, he did say "for him"

sod it. i'm going to have to order the dvds now. I miss Canada so much after only 11 weeks there out of the last 21 years
