Hi all,
I'm wondering if its possible to build a semi auto only sten gun using a parts kit and a new receiver. Anybody in Canada try this or have parts available? would be fun to build since it is so simple.

sorry I asked... most of the stuff about these is US so not much help since there's a big invisible wall that certain parts bounce off of and are not available on this side. Too sensitive about the subject I suppose...

A couple people around here have tried making there own stens. but to pass the rcmp smell test, apparently its not worth the effort. they keep changing there standards and lots of bs.

Now the funny bit. I got my Sten parts kit out of Canada and built it down here. It works like it was intended to work. Of course due to a change in the law, that is no longer possible. Just one reason I despise democrats!

Receiver tub is just standard tubing. That's how they were designed.

In Canada, the MAG WELL has the s/n, so it is the evil part.

Omnia peccata salve nos, Domine.

As I understand it a lot of the reaction here stems from one person who sort of ruined the semi-auto Sten game for everyone else.

So far, the RCMP have not requested to see mine yet.

As I understand, I have the 3rd, legally built/registered Semi-Auto STEN Mk. II in Canada. Fires from a closed bolt using a striker mechanism.

I was unable to get a SAS-3 Bolt out of the US, so I had to build mine from scratch. Took about 100 hours of machining time. Ish.

I only ever got it to fire 3 shots in a row....but it sure looks cool.

It has been inspected by the NS CFO (3 times) and if the RCMP ever ask me for it, well, they know where to find me.

There is an OLD thread somewhere in the Milsurp section....

Without the need to register non-restricted firearms why not just build one to non-restricted barrel and overall lenght with a semi open bolt? If it doesn't need to be registered and you build it for yourself it doesn't need to be inspected does it?

The problem with that there is that open bolts are super easy to convert to full automatic so if the RCMP ever requested to see it, you'd be in some trouble or at the very least have it confiscated

It would be easier to build and they don't have to see it as I understand it. They wouldn't like it but I don't think it is against the law.

Exactly. I'm asking what peoples experience is trying this in canada, and if it was possible to get all the parts without having to build the whole thing. Whichever company screwed who was not my question. Would be nice if there were more positive can do people on here...
