Colonel Mustard mailed an order on 04DEC. CanadaPost initially showed an expected delivery date 09DEC and the item continued to be "in transit" with daily updates from 09DEC to "expected delivery tomorrow" for four days, always also showing "in transit". Then expected delivery dates stopped, it remained in transit with "delayed" until today. It now reports "processed in Saskatoon" and expected delivery (in Saskatoon) four days from today.
I'm not surprised and there's no point complaining, they always have way more stuff to move this time of year than they can handle at normal speed. They take on extra staff for the season but there's still a limit of space and transport capability. With the Plague of Wuhan work rates have slowed in most organisations because of mandatory precautions and the volume of online shopping with attendant shipping is up. CanadaPost said last weekend they delivered an all-time record number of parcels for that period. I expect they are bound to have an all-time record of late parcels, too.

Only the shipper can start the claim. I think even a claim is futile as all these packages are just in a trailer or corner of the warehouse sitting unprocessed. CP knows this and won't really pay out a claim at this point. Plus I want my item more than I want the uninsured $100 entitlement.

From Post Mistress at local Post Office - the item in the parcel belongs to the sender, until they deliver it to receiver. They x-ray it, and discover that it is not in compliance - is on the sender, not on the receiver. In my limited experience, they deal with the "sender" - they do not have a lot of anything for the parcel receiver - not the receiver's stuff in their eyes... Sender choses or not to get insurance coverage - receiver never can do that - no way that local Post Office people know how me as receiver can buy insurance - will never know if insurance coverage was purchased or not - can only be done by the parcel sender.
I had two deliveries last week, one from England the other from Florida. They came FEDEX to the border and then transferred to Canada Post, both arrived in less than 7 business days from the original supplier. I have some packages coming via Canada Post originating in Canada and supposed delivery is 29 December order date was 16 December!

I have a firearm coming Canada Post. Was accepted at the post office in Quebec on December 7th. And that's it. No update of any kind saying it was/is in transit, just a item delayed notification 5 days ago. By tracking it looks like it hasn't even left the post office where it was dropped off 15 days ago.

DHL brought me a 6-ft long parcel from San Diego to Alberta in 5 days. Amazon.ca still gets stuff to me in 3 days. CanPar brought me gunpowder in 3 days. UPS is good, once Tenda finalkly got around to shipping my stuff haha. Canada Post parcels sent to me from inside Alberta (stuff off EE) make it in normal time, under a week. But some parcels from Ontario or Vancouver are at 3 weeks and counting. Meanwhile, other CP parcels from Ontario and Vancouver (shipped on the same day) made it in under 2 weeks. CP's regional sorting has totally fallen apart. They must be letting some trailers sit while others get unloaded...
Despite Covid & Christmas, canada post has become quite Dysfunctional ! It took me Three Weeks to get a gun from Calgary, 700 miles away. How's does amazon still deliver in Two Days what takes canada post Two Weeks ? Time to Privatize !
I gave a gentleman a Canada Post ‘Flexdelivery’ address to send a parcel to me ... his post office said the postal code was invalid. So I provided my home delivery address. Then because the Flexdelivery address was a ‘cut and paste’ copy of what Canada Post had given me (and I had used for several years) ...I finally reached a Canada Post agent to ask what was going on ... the agent verified that the postal code I had provided was correct....the local Post Office was incorrect.... she apologized for them. This isn’t rocket science.
