I've sent and received 100s of pkgs over the years through Canada Post. They only lost one scope. Insurance covered it ASAP. As long as the packing job is done right ..... No problems!
I said the same until last fall, when I shipped a particularly nice JM 1895 to a fella... and believe me, I package well... paper wrapped, bubble wrapped, padded and double boxed... well it arrived with a splintered stock... the only explanation is that it was run over by a vehicle or forklift. The parcel was insured... I immediately sent the funds to the buyer for a replacement stock set and STILL have not received a cent from CP.
