Canadian Armed Forces looking to retire BHP by 2026

I really hope we just go with Glocks for everyone, or a Sig P320 to capitalize on existing contracts/arrangements. The P225 should be abandoned wherever it still remains (MP, NBP).

I think we should use multiple manufactures and put it together (ARVA)

Colt frame
Glock slide
Sig mags
CZ sights

Put that together and gentilmen and ladies you will have the pistol the CAF needs (oh not assuming genders )

2026 to get the them implemented if they choose? Jesus. Good thing there is no big war at the moment...why not get parts made? I'm sure browning or colt will make them inglis type parts if they fork out the dough.

If properly maintained and cared for, age is irrelevant

The DND procurement process is something to see.. along with the Supply system and Politicians interfering it's a wonder anything useful is produced

Fake news, Canada doesn't use 1911s. Haven't used them since WW2/Korea.

a) Don't confuse deliberately fake stories with ordinary incompetence.

b) Serving members must be careful not to publically criticize top-driven orders and operations. The CANFORGEN came out this week and shows they are serious about dropping the hammer on offenders. Don't want to get tarred with that brush. It would be considered insubordination.

It would cost a lot for FN to custom manufacture MkI* parts just for us, plus our brownings have other issues.

I'd be demanding court martial on that one. Pretty easy defence......also glad, sometimes, that I am medically released now and dont have to contend with poor leadership decisions like making threats via CANFORGEN.

What's custom about our HPs? What other issues?

M

All new BHPs are MkIII models and have different Extractors and other parts have different tolerances. Our BHPs were made in the 1940s and a lot has chance if the manufacturing of BHP. Much like the differences in a 1970s SIG to a a 2017 SIG. Some parts are the same and some are not.

Issue are

-The mag safety causes more problems then it solves
-Cam lugs are become loose on most guns
-Sights suck
-No ambi mag, safety or slide catch
-No firing pin safety, so its not drop safe
-frames are starting to wear
-less reliable than modern pistols
-Depending on role, there is no option to mount a light
-Carrying a SA #### and lock by a poorly trained soldier is a bad idea. Yeah I know this should not happen, but welcome to the "New" Army...

Since I am retired, I couldn't care less. Public Works and pandering to Quebec has done more damage to the efficiency of the Canadian Armed Forces that the average Canadian could realize, much less believe. In 1914, the Canadian Government researched, negotiated, ordered and took delivery of 5,000 Colt Government Model pistols, to issue to our Expeditionary Forces IN ONLY 3 MONTHS. Until Public Works is held accountable for their incompetence and general lack of motivation this situation will continue.

When Inglis was charges with producing the FN Hi-Power in 1943/44 the drawings were converted to Imperial measurements as most NA machinery was based upon feet and inches not metric. The Inglis pistol produced in 1944/45 looks like the FN Hi Power but is not built on metirc measurements. Some parts might fit but I suspect not well. :>)

Remove Canadian pride and the gun is just a HI-Power which has long reached the time for it's passing. Light weight polymer guns are going to end up in the hands of our Army. They are inexpensive, proven and available and in vogue. How the Liberals mange to skim off their slice of the taxpayers money is up to conjecture but they will along with considerable effort by the bureaucrats to screw up a rather simple decision. How the Armed Forces manage to exist under the incompetence of the political elite is one of life's true mysteries. Best we don't know. Lips sink ships.

Take Care

Bob

So follow history and its documented what pistols we used, Its out in the open. Has been for 60 + years. So why would I be in violation of Canforgen?

Like Garand, Im retired also..
