As a taxpayer, I think it should just be a glock 17 or an m&p... something already out there, proven reliable, and cheap
As a dad... it’s about time. I have a son in the army that’s in a trade that he’s a pistol guy. The high powers they are using are older than I am, let alone my son... they’re worn out

Sad at best, dangerous at worst, thank him for his service. They will be another 5 years figuring this out before our troops get anything.
 
I’ll be retiring in 7 years, lets see if those roll in before I proverbially roll out.

Anyway, the same people that got to shop at the Boardwalk every weekend with their HP will be getting the new handguns. Not gonna change a thing at the Infantry level.


Can’t wait for the replacement of the C7/C8 in 2027/2028 :p

Here's the next announcement we can expect from the GOV & Colt Canada;

Colt Canada awarded 70 million dollar contract to produce 20,000 Colt Canada striker fired pistols;

1) Unit cost: It includes previous years of extensive R&D, prototypes, trials, publication of CFTO's, procurement of specialized equipment required for manufacturing these units (plus that equipment will be used in the future for other products), training for both soldiers and Techs, parts & tooling (which was hugely important-The CAF has a bad habit of buying things and no tooling, parts or training to support it). There's so much more into this then just the "unit cost per pistol". And to those of you saying "I have basically the same thing" sorry, no you don't. This is a completely new design from the ground up. Barrels, slides, frames, all different and new. I can attest that this is not a run of the mill striker fired pistol, it's in a class of it's own. There's a few good options out there, but we can pretty much assume that, as well as all other projects in the works for weapons replacement, are collectively and indefinitely on hold now due to COVID spending.

The P365 isn't going to be considered for a full-size service pistol contract. As others have mentioned it's too small and the magazine capacity isn't high enough. IIRC the preference is for a pistol with at least 15rds in a flush fitting magazine.

I'll bet decent money that these won't get fielded on time though. If CZ buys Colt and Colt Canada, that would be very interesting indeed.
 
Does the CF really need a new pistol? the Liberal GOV has regulated them to the likes of the "Red Cross" these days.
