A friend of mine told me that there is a Canadian firearms manufacturer that produces quality 1911's and I'll be damned if I can remember the name. Does anyone know the company? Just how good are its 1911's? Also price ranges would be good to know, as I have my sights set on a stainless 1911 as my first pistol. Thanks for the help!

Para Ordnance is most likely the company you have heard about. Thier guns vary in quality relative to the guns price tag. Search Para on here and you will see what I mean.

I was going to say Para Ordnance, but then I noticed you said quality 1911's.....

I've watched a video of a guy representing Para USA shooting 1000 rnds thru a Para Ordnance 1911 in about 11 minutes flat without a ftf or a jam. The gun got so hot he was just holding it between his thumb and index finger by the end of the run. I would think that torture test demonstrates "quality" at least inasmuch as quality=function.

His Para must have been different from the one I shot, cause I couldn't get through a single mag without a jam.....

Joe Dlask makes the finest 1911's in canada in my opinion...... I have heard excellent things about the custom work done by Armco as well (dealer here) but the only actual manufacturer other than para ord, is dlask here in b.c.

Also, whats the deal with Norinco? Their prices seem a little too good to be true as well

Most of the time you get what you pay for! I respect everyone's opinion but personally I would not put quality and Norinco in the same sentence...(well, I just did);)

First thing, how much are you ready to spend?

Well, OK ya gotta remember, most guys on here don't have your toy budget.... ;) :p

So Para's stuff is not so great huh? kinda thought those prices were a little too good...

I would'nt say that they are all poor quality guns. Some, such as the Todd Jarrett models, are excellent. Others suffer from various issues...don't write them off completely without doing a little research around here about the different models.

You're right NAA (and funny too!) that is why I always want to know how much one is willing to spend before suggesting or showing anything! In this thread we've gone from Dlask, Para to Norinco! And don't forget Doc mentionned quality 1911's..........

If someone has $700 to spend I will suggest a Nork (with a trip to Gunnar) or RIA
but if he is ready to throw away $1200 and up....he'll get a different answer!

Just like Lada vs Mustang...;)

Dude, did you ever experience a Lada - a Norc from Gunnar is miles better as a handgun than any Lada was as a car. Frankly I wouldn't trade my Armco Norc for a Para without a bunch of cash. :D Dlasks, in my experience, are great pistols and you get exactly what you want.

I'm only looking to spend between $500-$850, and of course it doesn't have to be straight outta the factory. I also don't want to limit myself to firearms only made in Canada, just rather give it to a fellow citizen than someone else. I realize that with my budget I'm not going to get a macked-out sportsman model or anything, I'm just looking for the most :shotgun: for my buck.

According to most of the population of the CGN site Norinco is very high quality in terms of reliability and sturdiness, just lacking in fit and finish as well as accuracy; so if you buy one at 350 or whatever the price is, it's probably a good idea to spend an extra 250+ to get 'er nice and tuned. Still cheaper than other 1911s though.

That was awesome, reminds me of trying the same stunt with my winchester 12 gauge a few years ago.. the slight hint of gun oil smoke curling out of anywhere oil could have possibly been hiding.
How many of you have done the same kind of thing?

haha.

This would be that. Okay, it's a little macked-out...
