Canadian made custom action decision

I’m planning a build using all Canadian components and I have decided on everything except the action.
The build will be using a carbon IBI barrel , Cadex strike nuke evo chassis/stock, cadex trigger and an Insite heathen brake. I’ll need a long action with a 0.473” bolt face. I was just going to use a Cadex R7 but they don’t offer their long action with a 0.473 bolt face. They said maybe next year.

So I’m looking at(in no particular order):
-Ultimatum Deadline
-K.S. Arms LAR 3 lug
-K.S. Arms Wolverine
-ATRS Maverick
-Not sure if there’s any others out there…

2 have 90° 2 lugs and 2 have 60° 3 lugs. I have a slight preference for 3 lug but definitely not a deal breaker either way.

Have you used any of these and have anything positive or negative to say about them?

Help me spend some money and get this build under way.

I have the deadline and it has worked fine. Not a direct drop in though. Want to check out the KS arms next time.

I’ve heard that the trigger hangar can cause some issues and that mag latches need to be shortened with the deadline, is that what you ran into?

I have no hands on experience with those actions. But from all I've read I would lean towards a ks arms action. Too many issues reported with the ultimatum. There must be a reason why there are a couple for sale on the EE at rock bottom prices and they aren't moving.

That thought had crossed my mind as well. On top of that, the Deadline is the most expensive and it’s not a total drop in. I do the like the idea of changeable bolt heads though.

You could probably just have ks make you a spare bolt at time of purchase. There were some reports on snipers hide of lugs galling on the ultimatum as the surface area is quite small. A user on here recently completed a build with the ks arms 3 lug I believe and he had alot of good things to say about it. The thread should be around here somewhere

I put mine in a mdt chassis and they provided the shorter mag latch. I ended up bedding the chassis and it's been fine. Bought both a short and long action a few years back. Much more time on the short action and really like it. Long is built as 300 prc so components have been scarce.

Been running a KS LAR for several years now.. I kinda went the same route with all Cdn build (minus the stock as I'm a lefty and there just wasn't an option that I liked).

The action is as smooth as glass, never an issue. I would buy another one in a heartbeat.

I have several ATRS built rifles based on either their Maverick or Infidel. Very happy with the quality, totally equal to anything Defiance makes ( I have several Defiance actions too)
A bit limited in stock choices but being as I favor the McMillan A5 and Game Scout stocks, this is not a problem.

Im glad you chimed in because I’ve had a hell of time finding any reviews or opinions on the Internet about the ATRS actions. They look great. Everybody who owns one must’ve signed a secret contract to not post about them haha.

After finding a few other threads on here about the 3-lug KS everybody seems to be saying the same things. Looks like a solid option and I’ve been a sucker for a smooth 3-lug ever since owning a TRG.

Interesting that Ultimatum actions are having issues. Definitely going to keep an eye on this thread too out of curiosity.

What made you want to go with the Strike Nuke Evo chassis over their other offerings that have more of a straight line of recoil? (I've heard others talk about that being beneficial, feel free to correct me!)

Does ATRS sell the Maverick action itself or do you have to have them build a complete rifle?
I was interested in this action but their website says they only sell them as complete builds.

I want the Nuke because I’ve had a few MDT chassis’, I’ve handled many others and I’ve come to the realization that I think I prefer stocks over Chassis. Also, this won’t be a light weight, more of a medium, but I plan on shooting it year round and hunting with it. After owning some all aluminum chassis I now understand their negatives in the cold. I used to own a TRG-22 and loved it because it had the benefits of a chassis but the feel of a stock. The Cadex strike nuke gives basically the same thing(it has a chassis molded in) but made in Canada. That being said, I really like the Cadex chassis’ and if this was strictly a target rifle then I would probably get the comp chassis.

As far as I know, they only sell the action with one of their builds. So if I went with the Maverick then ATRS would be doing the work. They already said they can modify the Cadex stock to fit the Maverick as it’s a little longer than a traditional 700 footprint.

Not to be a stick in the mud or to crap on Canadian made, but is your only reasoning for choosing a Canadian made action, simply for the fact it's Canadian made?

I just ask this because there are some amazing actions made in the US that are held to much tighter tolerances, and are likely much better than the Canadian offerings.

Ya that’s pretty much it. I’ve always had a itch to build an all Canadian rifle.

From everything that I’ve read, the actions that I’ve listed are at least on par with anything from the US. Don’t get me wrong, there are some really cool actions from the US and some with some really neat designs and features like the Archimedes from A.R.C. but they’re even more expensive. The Ultimatum Deadline seems to be very popular down south even though it’s Canadian made.

You don’t hear much about our Canadian made actions, just figured I would see what everybody’s opinions were and hopefully this might help someone else as well.

I have the Deadline in an MDT chassis (need longer mag release and shorter action screw - Supplied free from MDT) I love it, well built. Picked it up 20% off boxing day sale. Ordered Boxing day, arrived mid April. They had some factory seconds (cosmetic flaws) for 30% off. I will say however that customer service was a nightmare to get in touch with. Took me weeks to reach them.

The customer service horror stories about these guys have definitely kept me away. Almost ordered their defacto 2 years ago. Needless to say I'm sure glad I didn't give them 50% deposit on nothing
