Canadian Modular Assault Rifle

Didn’t you hear about the latest Middle East forever-war?
I hope with everything in me Colt Canada didn’t do this to prep our guys to go kill and die for you know who.
haven't you heard? Black guns are bad.
This checks out!
CADPAT MT is brown/FDE based instead of green, based on research and latest advancements in camouflage. https://www.canada.ca/en/army/news-publications/2024/02/cadpat-mt-uniforms.html
"The goal of camouflage is to delay detection by the enemy. The selection of the new Canadian Disruptive Pattern Multi-Terrain (CADPAT (MT)) colour scheme was a data-driven process, as this pattern reduces the likelihood of detection from a greater range of technologies and in the widest range possible of operational environments."
Hmm. Disheartening.

So 10K a rifle.

The plan to procure the Canadian Modular Assault Rifle (CMAR) has languished on the military’s equipment list for years but was sped up after the government of Prime Minister Mark Carney poured $93.3 billion into the Department of National Defence this year.

CBC News first reported on the plan in December. The formal announcement, however, was made Thursday at the Colt Canada factory in Kitchener, Ont.

The 65,402 rifles are being ordered in two tranches.

The first will involve the order of 30,000 general service (GS) rifles over the next three years. That portion of the contract is worth $307 million.

The second — to begin four years from now — will involve the purchase of an additional 19,207 GS variants plus 16,195 full spectrum rifles, which are specifically designed for front-line combat and urban warfare.....

C9 probably the best LMG around. Used by many countires and battle proven. Not sure why anyone would call it POS.

Elcan C79 is not a bad scope. Bear in mind this was the first optic on rifles issued to regular soldiers in any NATO country. Its rather dated now but to call it inadequate is to ignore its groundbreaking history.

BTW - none of this discussion is really about MBR so not sure why we are in this forum.
c9 is a jamomatic POS and always has been its role is suppression.. it lacks penetration and effective range.. and for the minimal weight increase .. i would carry a C6 over a C9 any day for the capability and reliability it brings

The C79 is garbage... it was a cool optic back in the day. But it has a small exit pupil size , an antiquated reticle that is not good for trying to walk fire on at long ranges (post blocks out the splash) the mount even in the A2 verrient is weedy at best... the OS4x should have been purchased as the replacement not A2 versions as it was the true development step forward with a better optic, better reticles and non fragile mount.

Indirect machine gunnery is area denial. The idea of setting a tripod, using aiming posts, and feeding belt after belt without seeing the fall of shot is bizarre to most machine gunners, but it is a valid tactic employment of the capability. Having a longer range with bigger projectiles achieves the same purpose, but who is directing the fire? Is it a FOO or another 031 with binos? That said, the .50 is probably the worst holdover small arm in the inventory when there are modern replacements. A very heavy rifle cartridge machine gun was issued by Sweden with their 8x63. More than the rifle round, and not as much as mortars or infantry support artillery.
I can assure you when the OP calls in "target1" and you line up the T&E to your pre sited fire coordinates and start hammering targets drop. you arn't blind firing over a hill, you are firing from a defensive position.. and you have OPs out to provide advance warning and spot for indirrect fire. If done correctly you have already sited in, and confirmed fire on those target araeas and marked and recorded your C2 site adjustments for the "target" fine adjustment may be made by the OP if the target(s) are not fully in the kill zone

At that range you have like a 30-40 m wide cone of fire with 100m First catch to first strike zone were anyone standing is probably going to get swacked in a few long bursts from the gun.. then a 200m Beaten zone were even if your prone your probably going to catch something that will ruin your day.

"Canadian soldiers are to difficult to train and harder to retrain"

That was the reason given to me by the LCMM for retaining the 1980 tech brick known as the C79. I still think the OS3 was a perfect general issue optic.

I am sure there are a lot of slices in the pie that affect the end cost.

- MRR uppers - 10 times the cost of a std upper
- barrels - completely different
- lowers - completely different
- many small parts differences
- optics/mounts - completely different
- support tooling for weapons techs
- tech pubs
- spare suppressors - and suppressor maintenance

so the whole budget/# of rifles gives you a price per rifle, but I suspect the cost/rifle drops when all the other factors get included. This happens when you do a whole change over of a fleet.
