Are there the same problems ordering scopes from Canada to the UK as there are with US to UK (i.e. you can't)?

If not, then where are the good places to order from?

TIA

Check out the site sponsors most carry nice selections of scopes at good prices, as far as I know you shouldn't have any problems related to shipping from Canada to UK

Will do - and thanks, Ruthless.

I just cannot understand the US Federal Govt policy on scopes. I mean, why on earth ban those from export? The other week, I (perfectly legally I might add) got a spare mag from the States and some internal bits for one of my rifles. So why the hell are optics on the banned list? Al Qaida can just as easily get their scopes in Europe. It's potty!

dont know why, all i know we cant get it out of the US (without permit) so i buy from within or from other countries , two weeks ago i got a posp scope from belarus (former ussr , i think) so if i can bring them into canada then we can certainly sent them out to UK.

Optics are not banned. Most (except for a very few military scopes) are easy to export from the US. They require a commerce Department export certificate which is issued quite quickly.

I thought that an individual could actually drive to the States, purchase a scope(any scope...except possibly the mysterious Super Sniper would supposedly will get you 15 to 20) and then declare it at the border with no difficulties. Is this correct? The reason I ask is that I've had friends purchase Leupold VXI's from WalMarts in the States during a roadtrip and declare them at the border without problems. But I've never heard of such a thing mentioned on this site.....only references to scopes needing paperwork when mailed.

The problem is not bringing them IN to Canada. It's bringing them OUT of the USA. You are breaking the law bringing them out of the USA without an export permit. If there were to be a spot check by US Customs on the way out of the US (rare but still a possibility), you would be in hot water.

Jon,

You're really better off buying your scope from where you live... A scope I ordered from the UK during this past week would have cost me about 50% more had I bought it here in Canada!

Just a thought...

I don't know if things have changed but about 2 years ago i got checked before the canadian border by u.s. customs and i had 4 scopes and they didn't say anything about export permits. they did want to know how i liked them. Maybe i got lucky.

I just finished looking at scopes on E-Bay and found a dealer in Plymouth WI.that had a few nice cheaper tactical formated rectical cross hairs for sale .HE would export to Europe and other countrys ,But would not ship to Canada as it says in his store, because Canada requires an export permit. I emailed him to explain as I thought it was . First illegial for him to export that type of scope in the first place . and to just blame Canada for the permit thing without the US not needing permits. I wouldnt buy from him anyway but it was funny blaming Canada for problems with his country. The Store on E-Bay is The Hunters Mall.

elcan specterdr

what would happen if someone from canada tried to ship a scope into the US , until I read this forum I had no idea that there could be problems shipping optics .......
