That sounds like the best policy. Just let the current ranger with the rifle keep the "nonrestricted" firearm that would cost more to pick up and destroy than leave ss is.
They must have been previously available to the public as my friend has one he inheireted from his father which somehow was never issued into actual ranger service. I have tried to convince him to store it for rarity sake but the guy still insists on hunting with it.
