Canadian Ranger 303's

That sounds like the best policy. Just let the current ranger with the rifle keep the "nonrestricted" firearm that would cost more to pick up and destroy than leave ss is.

They must have been previously available to the public as my friend has one he inheireted from his father which somehow was never issued into actual ranger service. I have tried to convince him to store it for rarity sake but the guy still insists on hunting with it.

pretty sure I told every one last year ,to go join the Rangers. if there in an area that has them . that they would be happy they did.
free rifles are always good.

Military rifles did not require commercial proof marks. If a military firearm was surplussed and sold to a European wholesaler on the commercial market it most likely would have been proofed prior to being sold.
If a military firearm was deemed surplus and sold to a US wholesaler then there was not necessarily a requirement for proofing or proofmarks.

fair enough, shot it this weekend. Never used the British Enfield sight before, took some getting used to (perhaps they were way off). was missing cans on logs at about 80ft lol
i'm sh*t with remember to take pictures sorry

The rifle is typically set up for a 200 yard zero - so even a perfectly zeroed rifle will be tough to hit with at 80.

Explains alot and makes alot of sense given the nature of the weapon.
next time we shoot at longer range. Usually am a better shot lol I see that the main problem was me lol.

funnest thing about shooting a old enfield is putting 200 rounds down it in a short time and getting it so hot it starts to run liquid cosmoline or grease or whatever they stored them in out of the stock and all over your hands.

ive never had a gun do that before.

Sounds great! I wonder how they feel about middle aged, 125 lb. guys with arthritis?

You can re-create that experience by getting an SKS that hasn't been de-cosmolined. Good on you for getting a L-E that was still in cosmo.:d
