Canadian Rifle Builders - Who would you spend your money with?

Insite is indeed got an action in the works, it's been on this forum more than one and if you haven't seen it then your not looking. And what does any other gunsmith do other than assemble parts from top quality parts. You send them a barrel blank they will chamber it and install it. You want your gun cerakoted or stock bedded they do that too. So please explain to me which gunsmiths in this country don't " PUT TOGETHER " rifles?

Can you elaborate on this broad comment? I have several rifles built by ATRS and all are stellar as is their service. I have 1 rifle so far that was "put together" by Insite and it is very good to be sure as all top quality components were used but they only assembled the parts rather than actually making them with the exception of their brake.

I have heard that Insite is working on making an action but have yet to see one.

Did they chamber the rifle you had assembled ?
That's where the magic happens.
Of those listed, only Chou and insite are comparable when it comes to accuracy. And even then I'd give the nod to insite. They're cranking out prs style builds on surgeons that shoot in the teens with a good driver. I've never really seen that outside of Barnard action bench rest rigs.

Many fine gunsmiths mentioned so far. The F Class Worlds just completed. On the Cdn National Team, there were 5 gunsmiths (and one doing his own installs) capable of building rifles to compete with the best in the World. The Depth of talent now available to the Cdn shooter is impressive. Many don't spend alot of time on forums or social media so many don't even know they exist but their quality of work IS.

Tech moves at a fast pace and it is nice to see gunsmiths that are also competitors in their respective sports learning and pushing to ever increasing levels.

I spent a very nice day with Terry at Black Art Rifle Company installing the last of 5 test barrels which are part of a product development program I am doing with a major US barrel manf. Compared to how the barrel was set up at the factory, Terry was able to dial in that barrel to within 0.0002" on his lathe... and I am being generous cause the Mitotoyu gauge pretty much didn't move.

Terry can do full machining and does alot of "fixing" of aftermarket parts that are supposed to be drop in fit. He was rebuilding a drop in hinged floor plate mag when I got there yesterday.

I was doing a bit more inletting on my Rem 783 DBM to get the fit just a schnick better.. but that changed the engagement with the mag latch... GRRRRR. NO problem, a couple of minutes later, he had welded up some material on my latch which I was able to grind for a perfect fit. As a trained machinist of several decades, he got skills!

Far from a parts assembler, he actually repairs, fits, builds and puts thing together so they work.... and that is using well known brand parts. On occasion, he just builds the part cause the supplied one didn't work.

He has been building all my FTR rifles and the performance has helped me win 3 of 4 matches I have gone to this year in WA state.

WRT to accuracy, you can see my facebook page and the number of prefit barrels from Shilen, McGowen and CarbonSix that shooters are reporting groups in the 1's, 2's and 3's. There are plenty of ways to get superb accuracy close and far with the current range of parts and service.

There is plenty of talent in Canada ..... which is a very good thing

This certainly seems to be the case and I, for one, am very happy to have been able to spend my money in Canada for what will no doubt be world class gunsmithing. We have very well regarded barrel makers, exceptionally gifted gunsmiths and equally successful shooters within our nation.

This one has caught my attention, wondering what folks think of the infidel action from ATRS

Still truly undecided on which way I will end up going but the thought of an all Canadian precision rig appeals to me a great deal. Thanks for all the feedback offered thus far folks.

I was also intrigued with this but I must confess that I didn't know if they had made it past the prototype stage. Back when I joined this forum ATRS were hugely popular (and as I mentioned in a previous comment they built a very nice shooter for me off of a Defiance action ) but for some reason one doesn't hear so much about them now - I figured it was because they focused on the modern hunter/varminter and moved away from precision bolt guns but other members may know better than I.

PGW will never see a dime of mine, I've heard too many stories from gunsmith friends of mine that have worked on them.

Interesting, first time I've heard anything negative on them myself. What sort of issues are they running into and why are they being worked on?

I have both the ATRS Infidel and Maverick actions that the boys built from scratch, fitted Proof barrels to in A5 stocks and they are extremely smooth, feed flawlessly and are extremely accurate rifles. I also have a couple of Defiance actions that they have barrelled for me and the ATRS actions I believe are as good if not better. Zero machine marks, which I can't say is the case with the Defiance and the nitrided finish is a nice touch as it seems to be as close to being impervious to wear as it gets.
I can't wait for them to bring out a 50 cal action.

The best shooters in the world just completed the 2017 F class World championships. The next world championship will be 2021 in four years. Check out who the top 4 shooters are in FTR. You would have to make some outstanding equipment to be at this level and to have your gunsmith understand what it takes, wow.
There were 204 competitors from 19 countries

All the best

I know Chou Bros know what they r doing but I never know they can shoot as good as they smith

I personally know someone that had an issue but at the same time it was not a big one and every company is not perfect 100% of the time.

I would buy a PGW or from any of the smiths listed.
