Canadian Shotgun Gunsmiths

I should clarify, I'm talking about high gloss refinishing and checkering on Walnut stocked over/under competition trap guns.

Though i'll definitely check out TacOrd for my rifle work.

Gunco in Ottawa does perhaps the best bluing around, including very high gloss if that is what you want. They do NOT use buffing wheels, it's all down properly with no "melted" appearance afterward. They offer pointed hand checkering, but it's rather expensive and they are pretty backed up where checkering is concerned.

Gunco does not specialize in shotguns specifically, but they DO specialize in high end bluing and often do restoration work on high-end stuff like Purdey, H&H, Merkel, etc.

Jason has a personal love of doubles and cape guns, works on them a LOT.

Going a bit further on this line of thought, does anyone have any gunsmith recommendations for fine side by sides, mostly for annual strip and clean, on the west coast?

Stuart Newby, Half Moon Bay on the Sunshine Coast. Birmingham trained. I don't think he does stock work....he's an actioner and barrel man.

Anybody care to post a photo of Jason's barrel bluing?

FWIW, Gunco is does ALL the Beretta Warranty re-bluing for Canada - mostly high-end doubles.

Here's a couple examples of their work I have handy.

They do the bluing in-house, but the engraving is done there on a part time basis by one of the master engravers that works at the National Mint engraving the master copies for all the special edition coins.
